echoz Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Piston, if I'm honest I haven't asked, although i read somewhere that they have the right to check our insurance if they like, but they don't have to do anything about it if were not covered. Cliveboy, I have indeed worked through agencies, I did my last work with them in a box factory for a month in December, very hard work but quite enjoyable when you work with cool people As for supermarkets I've applied to everyone in the local area (25 mile radius of where i live down in Dorset) once a month I will keep trying Oh and I'm 19 I feels like if you have plans in the immediate future people don't want to empliy yo uas i tmeans they will have to go through the employment process again. Ahwell I'm not giving up yet Cheers for all the replies Quote
Blatman Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Surely the pizza co have there own group policy for all there delivery drivers Crappy firm if not Depends. If the delivery job is PAYE, then yes, *everything* should be supplied from insurance to protective clothing and even somewhere to sit and keep warm whilst waiting for the next assignment. If the delivery drivers are self employed, then all those expenses will be down to the worker. "But the pizza place are supplying the bike and (probably) the uniform etc" I hear you all say... Yeah, they may well be. They will also be charging the worker some sort of rent for the vehicle and maybe even the clothing supplied. It's common practice in the despatch industry to charge a hefty deposit and then weekly "rent" on the two way radios that couriers (and mini cab drivers) use. It's a nice little income stream for the company and is supposed to focus the minds of the worker to keep the radio safe and in working order, lest they lose their deposit. Another "hidden" charge imposed that boils my P**s when I have to deal with courier company's... Quote
echoz Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 I would get a uniform and that's it I have a mate who works for them, and their not self employed as in he doesn't pay his own tax etc Just get paid min wage and paid fortnightly. LOL it's a world of potholes lol! I'm thinking of seeing if i can get into these places where they test new drugs on you Quote
Blatman Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 If it's a PAYE position and they supply the vehicle, then they *must* supply insurance and protective clothing. No if's, no buts. Had this discussion with employers, employees, contractors and the Inland Revenue on lots of occasions, and current legislation introduced by Brown and his f******s has made life a whole lot more tedious... I'm thinking of seeing if i can get into these places where they test new drugs on you Google for drugs trials. Plenty of them around and the money is good, and you're usually well looked after. Do bear in mind the pitfalls though. Bad outcomes are rare, but eyes open and all that... Quote
echoz Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Was joking, but after reading that and actually thinking about it, no harm in looking into it abit more Quote
Blatman Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Mate of mine has done a couple of them. Total of 4 weeks work*, free health checks before and after, and earnings in excess of 4K. *Work means sitting around in your room at the hospital watching telly, reading, surfing the net and pretty much doing whatever you want. You just can't leave until the trial is over. Small price to pay... Quote
echoz Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Agreed. http://www.trials4us.co.uk/registration/index.php Did s/he use these people? Just been reading the feedback from previous volunteers, just have to take the drug and then likle you said, just sit around whilst the doctors etc watch fro reactions etc. 4k Quote
Blatman Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 You won't know if you are taking the drug. Most trials have to operate the "double blind" method. Only the people in charge will know who's getting what. So some of you will get the drug, some of you will get a placebo. But no-one knows who and how many, except those in charge, so that the results can't be skewed by "inmates" comparing "side efects"... No idea which service my mate applied to, but I do know he was at Northwick Park get paid up to £120 per day for participation 120 x 14 days = £1680 for two weeks "work". My mate got more. IIRC he was paid something like 180 a day... Quote
echoz Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Yeah, i did Psychology for A level, I'm not a know it all, but i know quite abit about it already, because of all the psychological tests done in the 60's to 80's im America especially It's a very tight procedure And is there any chance you could find out? Again cheers for all the help Quote
Blatman Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Any chance I could find out what? My mate did his a couple of years ago now, and with the economy the way it is any number of things could change, remuneration being one. You'd be best spending an hour or two on Google looking up drugs companies, research / teaching hospitals and universities, and maybe even the BMA... Quote
echoz Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 True, and yep that's what i been doing Quote

Blatman Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Wouldn't bother me. You don't have to actually have the condition they are testing treatments for 'cos they are not looking for cures, they are looking for harmful, and non harmful side effects. Testing on the afflictyed will only start after this... Quote
peterg Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 and if you do get any side affects and it's one of 'our' products then it'll be reported to the team I work in for assessment and follow up Quote
Blatman Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I don't think your team will be coming up with that vital anti aging pill you so desperately need though... well, not in time anyway Quote
