Hi All

Hav,nt got my car yet, but when it arrives it will have used Yokohama AO38/50R15 rubber on it. What I am looking for is suggestions on the best road tyre, based on the fact that i will not be going to the track, but still want the comprimise for road use with handling befitting a "7". Cheers Guys.  Steve

cr500s are prob the best option if you are looking for good grip wet and dry for fast road use and are reasonably good on track should you decide to do a trackday but they ain't cheap the cheapest option .

I quite like Toyo R888 or Yokohama A048 for the road. I would get soft compound if you dont do many miles ie 2000 miles a year or so. The tyres on such a light car and road use should last a couple of years. If you are looking for handling and grip tyres will need to be changed after three years anyway as the harden with age.

Really appreciate all the advise guys, checked out the Avon's, really pay a premium for them here in canada. Around 160 quid per tyre. The toyo's are a bit more reasonable. Keep the advise coming. Thanks. Steve.

You got to be joking !! my R888's (medium compound)are superb in the dry but on a wet Oulton park last month the car was like a dog on lino.  Okay so they work ok on a damp track but any standing water and forget it.  Only my opinion but for mainly road use I would pick a more road biased tyre.  Sorry I can't recommend any as I only really use my car on the track and have only ever used R888's and try not to go out in the wet too often :p .  Hope this is some help.

for an allrounder as good as 888s are I wouldnt recomend them for a road tyre for wet conditions, I used the soft compound 888 at Anglesey and they were good and perdictable but nothing  like a cr500 for wet grip and I would imagine something like a yokohama A539 would be prob better suited  if you are not looking for ultimate grip in the dry, dont some of the speed series boys use a tyre by stunner to good effect  :suspect:  :suspect:

Not really - almost any tyre is pants at Oulton Park in the wet!!! :D

To balance the discussion, I've been to Oulton Park (and other tracks) a few times in the wet, and have sampled at least five brands of tyre on my car, as well as had the opportunity to compare the levels of grip to many other car similar cars on track. My 'medium' R888's have quite simply been the best I've tried on my car, and as good and if not better than any other road legal tyre out there... :t-up: The same goes for road use. Just keep an eye out for standing water - but you would be a fool to be driving fast and aiming for standing water with *any* tyre on such a light car on wet roads anyway...!
