Chasmon Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Now will someone go and answer my question in the techy section...! Quote
hilux Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 QUOTE can we please start talking down the residuals of Porches on the Porsche forums You dont need to........I still go on them and new ones depreciate at least £1.50p per mile at the moment and since the accountants took over and upped production they are ever cheaper apart from the `special` ones. Boxsters are well below £10k now so Westy`s will have competition for the pocket money of hobby car hunters. Anything RS and to an extent CS has gone up loads due to the watering down of the `Heritage` 911 air cooled are starting to do the same with a split in the owners clubs appearing between air and water. Water is seen as not having the `correct` Heritage. I do consider (yes, I know - we`ve all been there about what actual Heritage is left) the Heritage thang is what mainly keeps C/Ham prices at a premium over W/Field and the latest factory cars have enhanced that myth among afficionados and motoring journalists as they are quite quick I would also go as far as to say that average length of ownership is longer with C/Hams but that is my perception. Notwithstanding the above (and having owned a Westy) I cant see where the added value is dynamically between a decent C/Ham and a well sorted Westy. Personally I`d have another Westy for two reasons 1) The forum is superb with an almost unprecedented knowledge base for a marque. 2) I like to mess with my cars and a Westy is a better bet for me and is in my price bracket. All told though, just like house prices, the market will pay what its worth when compared to the market eg: in a row of 3 bed semi`s the one with a massive extension and swimming pool etc etc is not worth that much more than an ordinary one so people will pay the average market price for an ordinary one but will aspire to the better house one day. The person that aims towards the better house will probably look and then go and do the same as above but in a row of detached Quote
Blatman Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 QUOTE The 996 is still worth more than you can afford Er, I can afford it, I just don't want to pay the asking price, which is kinda the point. Cars are worth what the market will stand, no question, but again that is different from what someone wants to pay, which was my point. When we are talking niche market cars, supply and demand have less of a contributory effect on the price. Idiots commenting incessantly in public, without the benefit of knowledge or wisdom, can have a large effect on the price, especially when the market is as limited, and the information source as confined as it is for Westfields... Chasmon Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Well we all know life's too damn short so get it bought Quote

Blatman Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 QUOTE Now I prefer not to call people idiots !!! - this is aimed at me and others that have posted comments in the past when buyers/sellars have asked for an opinion as to if the car is good value to buy and or likely to sell at the advertised price Rest assured Cleggy, if I aim a post at someone, I'll name and shame. Interesting that you think it was aimed at you though. If you're as innocent as you claim to be, why would you think my comments were aimed specifically at you? Quote
juansolo Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Westfield owners, and I very much count myself as one, are incredible pikeys. The first to group buy or try to haggle a discount. The first to mention how much cheaper it is than a Caterham... We are the poor relation to the Caterham because our attitudes to this have made it this way, and nothing magically changes when you come to sell the car. So whilst I agree wholeheartedly with Nikpro, I think by our very nature we have only ourselves to blame. Quote
lippydave Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 I regularly look on PH and ebay to see whats going on and it is quite clear that without any influence from boardroom users, that cars aint fetching what the owners would like and what they are worth - that is a depressing fact Opens next can of worms..... Cleggy I'll happily defend your right to express your opinion, but I will disagree with this note right here... A semantic point perhaps, but "what they are worth" is not the same thing as the amount of time, love, effort, or cold hard cash spent on them...... What the optimistic pedants here seem utterly blinkered to, is the fact that in this instance (s/hand car sales), the market determines the desirability or otherwise of the car for sale..... What's worth 20 quid to you could be worth a fiver to me or even fifty quid... I do agree that overtly negative commentary on a car for sale should be pm'd, that's what I'd deem common courtesy. I also believe that your comments were not intentionally negative, (and were a response to a request for commentary), unlike the last quoted from jimmy1234 which was obviously a blatant troll to prod the scaremongers and naysayers amongst us...... To re-iterate an earlier point, that car in this particular advert IMHO had evry chance of fetching a good price, it was luvverly, but it's a subjective thing as to what a good price is, and the final arbiters are the guy who sells it and the guy who buys it....Compare the Westies.com.....Simples Quote
Richard Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 "To help me with my 996 ambition, can we please start talking down the residuals of Porches on the Porsche forums. What do you think the Porsche owners will say? I'll be upset - Its taken me years to eventually scratch the itch!! Please dont talk the residuals down any more !!! Only owned for 18 months but dread to think whats happened in that time ... Still, its alright where it is at the moment,,,, thankfully Blatters - I can highly recommend the 996. great fun!! Quote

Bananaman Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Been following this thread with interest and i recon that the rules be changed in the cars for sale section only allowing the poster of the ad to add comments. If there are serious buyers out there then it's easy enoughto send a PM or if people feel the need to comment or give advice (good or bad!!!) then this can also be done via PM. I know there has been a car on here recentley that was described slightly in accurately (i don't know if this was an innocent mistake or not? but surely it's buyer beware ) and if your serious about the car then a bit of resurch and/or taking another member along to view the car with you should point out most things! stephenh Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Think the only problem then is how a non-member contacts the seller? Or cant they post in there anyway? Quote
