Various Questions

Greetings all,

I'm trying to source the components for my car that I will collect next month (yeah!;)) and I need a diff. Can anyone tell me which Sierra models have a 3.92 diff? All the ones I've looked at (off 2.0L models) are 3.36. (Also kinda difficult to read the tag when the diff is still in the car too...)

Secondly, I was wondering what insurance on a Westie is like. The brochure lists some fairly cheap prices, but for over-25s and I'm 23.... How much should I be expecting to pay?

Thirdly, what is the wiring loom from Westfield for? ???  I'm assuming it's for the engine/ignition (duh) but does it connect anything else? Reason I was asking is because I was thinking of getting the carbs from Dunnel or Raceline and they also supply wiring looms - if I got theirs, would I still need the one from Westfield?

Thanks,

- Dan.

I though most Sierra diffs were 3.62's.........For a 3.62, with LSD, look for XR4x4's. I'm sure a web search will locate a specialist XR spares supplier, probably in Essex.........or the back pages of Motorsport News.

Insurance.

Talk to Hill House Hammond (Peterborough office), MSM, Eggar Lawson, Footman James, Aon. Most of the numbers are on this site. Do a search.......

Dunnell wiring loom is (I think) for use with an ECU, so it's an add on to the Westfield loom. You seem to have overlooked lights, guages, fuel pump, senders, low tension circuits, rad fan, heater (if you fit one), wipers, horn, windscreen washers, dash switches and illumination etc, in your assesment of what a wiring loom will be for. Don't bother trying to modify an Escort loom, buy the bespoke item from the factory.

Some have 3.92 diff's fitted these have a "D" in the plate thats under the bonnet where it says axel type to confirm this talk to phil at road and race he will also change the ratio of a 3.62LSD to a 3.92LSD for sensiable money.

Yes you need a wiring loom from Westfields or another, the RaceLine bit is for the engine only.

Dan what engine are you fitting? Is it the Zetec

If so change the crank shaft sensor before you fit the engine to the bellhousing its an engine out if its damaged or its dead about £7.00 ish

Paul.

Hi, only just found this posting, so sorry about slow response.

Insurance- I'm 23 and have a slighlty dubious accident record, driving to fast in cars that don't go round corners in the wet.

I pay £320 fully comp with car valued at £5k (1.7 SEi). This is with Adrian Flux 08700 777888.  Customer service their ain't great to be honest, they at first wanted an imobiliser on the Westie untill I pionted out a monkey could start it by taking the bonnet off.

Hope this is of help. It's a great car, mates don't like it tho cause they get scared :D
