VauxMad_Kris Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Would prefer the v8 chassis tbh as i like the bonnet and nose cone, have spoken to them today all they said was best stick to enignes that they fit. but thats boring. to easy lol Quote
FW500 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 You don't need the V8 chasis to have the V8 Nose and bonnet. Also for Westfield to tell you that is pretty irritating. Obviously they can't know every engine and gearbox combination but if you know the dimensions of the engine they should be able to help. To be fair - I'd be pretty surprised if it doesn't fit. I'm familiar with Vauxhalls too and I can assure you there's more space to play with under a Westfield's bonnet than there is in say a Mk2 Astra and I know you can get a V6 into one of them. That's too simple a comparison though as the engine's height is more of an issue in the Westfield. I'd also suspect that you'd need to ditch the standard inlet as I'd expect that to foul the steering column. If I were you I'd turn up at the Westfield factory with a tape measure before you apply much more though to this. Quote
VauxMad_Kris Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 cheers for that i do plan to take a trip there tbh as there only a few minutes from where i live. is there a difference in the chassis ie from the chassis that uses the type 9 and xe engine to a v8 chassis. Quote
Blatman Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Ask em for V8 chassis with T5 Gearbox option thats the widest they do. The difference that would be of most concern is the size if the gearbox tunnel. As Barry has said, whatever you order, make sure it has the biggest gearbox tunnel available. You will probably want a decent gearbox hanging off the back of the V6, and as Barry again suggests, the Borg Warner T5 is probably one of the best. If I was fitting a V8 or a powerful V6, the T5 would be very high on my shopping list... Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 cheers for that i do plan to take a trip there tbh as there only a few minutes from where i live. is there a difference in the chassis ie from the chassis that uses the type 9 and xe engine to a v8 chassis. It has more torsional strength within the chassis by adding diagonals.. Buzz <!--emo& Quote
VauxMad_Kris Posted November 6, 2009 Author Posted November 6, 2009 I know they do a t9 bellhousing to fit the xe's but are the t5's the same fitment as this could also present problems. Quote
markboyce Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 The Type 9 to XE will not fit a T5 Gearbox. A Frame Engineering will sell you one for a T5 to XE. Quote
stu999 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I'm so glad I live in Yorkshire I'm glad too! Buzz, I'm all for seeing summat different. But I also speak with some experience, having made my own sevenesque car from scratch, as opposed to merely bolting together a glorified Airfix kit. Even having stuff done by a third party can be difficult for some, e.g. if the third party needs the car, as possibly in the case of exhaust manifolds. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a trailer/towbarge at their disposal, and/or the funds in which to enable either. Call me what you like fella (quite like smoke 'n' mirrors -especially if it is tyre smoke ), but I try and deliver a bit of reality where possible. As an example, to some, building and installing a Megasquirt ECU is a piece of p1ss. Yet others have been on the verge of suicide trying to do the same! But at least 'doddle' has been downgraded to 'reasoanably difficult' now... Quote
FW500 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 As Mark said I also used A Frame Engineering for a T5 to VX bellhousing, and as Blatman and Buzz have already said the T5 is the best way to go (Not least because they're cheap to buy, cheap to fix, cheap to upgrade, cheap to attatch stuff to such as hydraulic clutch assemblies and absolutely bulletproof). My T5 went in without any chasis mods whatsoever. Edited to say: Also Westfield also have an off the shelf T5 to Ford differential propshaft which makes life simple too. Quote
stu999 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Now you've contradicted yourself @ 'peace of P**s' = ‘doddle; perhaps you need to down grade that to reasonably difficult!! wuv you X Buzz of Yorkshire So, I think we got there then - kind of! Winding up the wind-up Merchant is good sport tho Wuv you too xxx ;-P Quote
