VauxMad_Kris Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 thanks for all the advice guys, least its pointing me in the right direction. Might have to rethink the wheels then unless i can get some spacer hubs on there if that would work. Quote
scott beeland Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Only sensible option with the wheels IMO is ebay them and buy some ford fit ones. I like the engine idea though. The Irish car install looks fantastic. Quote
VauxMad_Kris Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 i would like to try to keep as much of the car as vauxhall parts if possible. I would certainly prefer to keep some set of vaux wheels on there, might have to see if i could get some off a different car say omega but they prob the same offset. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Insisting on sticking with the Vauxhall route could work out expensive and also compromise the performance but good luck. Quote
FW500 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I agree - we all know that Vauxhall stuff is better than Ford stuff but once in a very blue moon the Ford stuff makes more sense. Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Two things that spring to mind are one-off engine mountings, and one-off exhaust (or rather, exhausts for a V6!) Engine mounts are a doddle tbh. As for the exhaust wouldn't be too difficult either even going underslung as you would pick up the why piece where the V8 headers link into.... the only thing would the headers and JP exhausts in Makesfield or Tony Laws in Leeds will make them up for you but it would mean taking the car to them etc Buzz Quote
FW500 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Does Tony Laws work with stainless or is it still just mild? Quote

And exhausts are not difficult, if you have the tools above, or you can take it somewhere for someone else to do. My Simpsons exhaust was a piece of p1ss. Until I had had to pay the bill Quote
Tim Reid Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Going back to the begining on this david.c has a V6 in his westy... I think it's a ford unit. Quote

Until I had had to pay the bill Not exactly hard to get a hold of(which I have and always willing to loan out to our locals)& if you don't know anyone in your area who is will to help(THATS THE BEAUTY OF THE YORKS REGION) which I would be surprised that’s the way round it, if you haven’t got any equipment. The hardest part is buy or scrounging the metal which was the most difficult part when I made another set for my XE. As for the exhaust again not difficult as you missed in my 1st post get the headers made up as its less fannying about and if you are going under slung get them to connect up to the standard Westy system for the V8 of JP exhausts Macclesfield if your going out board go to your local exhaust chaps(we have wonoff who are very accommodating) with your tubing and get them to do the bending and then hang one of the many, many after market 7 side exhaust cans which are available as I said a doddle.... VauxMad_Kris Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 cheers guys, getting the exhasuts done for me is not the biggest problem. Im def going to fit a 3ltr v6 in and have the exhasuts outside either side of the car. Reason I want to keep as much vauxhall parts on there is becasue i have a huge supply of the parts and also I go to alot of vauxhall shows and it would certainly stand out more. As for cost i realise that if you go down the path few others have or not at all its going to cost you more money and time to finish. For me its not a problem as i already got an idea of how i want my car to end up, and its always been something i have wanted to do for a long time. Quote

Buzz Just hope he lives in the Yorks area, knows how to weld, has access to metal, and knows what the h#ll 'headers' are then, and that they will be a straight fabrication job without having complicated shapes in the exhaust, chassis or engine to take into account then Simples Quote
VauxMad_Kris Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 whats the difference in all the kits is the v8 chassis kit the best one to go for? Quote
Blatman Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 I would tell the factory what you are planning and let them advise you, although I would think that a V8 starter kit is the sensibe option. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Ask em for V8 chassis with T5 Gearbox option thats the widest they do. Quote
