markcoopers Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Why are we all so fussed about going so fast? Quote
scott beeland Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I can see the appeal to the new Euro market place (and by talking to Mark Walker last week the order books are very healthy)... but for me (and I realise this is subjective) it just wasn't a version I would buy; or that will do that well on sales in the UK. Yes the car looks like a Westfield; and handles something like (on the road test I had); but there are a few oddities that blunt the experience when you are in the car. The transmission tunnel height/ trim gets in the way during any spirited driving for one. I feel this may be a combination of a very low seating position and a high tunnel. The dash-board is just too "production hatchback" for what I would want....(yes I realise it is straight out of a Corsa and a lot of the readouts are hugely difficult to see in the sun (the plastic screen over the dials reflects badly) The car lacked any sporting character in the exhaust/ induction department (although this may be due to the huuuge euro silence it had on...the factory are sorting something a little more sporty apparently) More surprisingly (given the fact it's got a blower on it and on paper gives some decent power figures).....for me it didn't feel particularly quick; and the gear ratios weren't particularly suited to the application)....and the clutch!!!! It's also fcukin expensive (although the factory are well aware of this; and aware that this may well dent sales figures in the domestic market) On the plus side, there are some nice bits that could cross over into the kit builds.... Ease of transition to RHD/ LHD using one chassis; Taller and much more raked screen/ pillar position (looks better and improves aero a little); much bigger window area in sidescreens; improved triangulation/ strengthening around the diff area and tank. Edd Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Julian told me (although he has spoken complete b*****ks to me on several occasions since) they have sold over 35 and if you wanted one you can't until about April next year at the very earliest. Quote
john_margaret Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Can't beat a turbo'd motor for cheap power increases. Plenty of vauxhall tuners (i.e. courtnay) offer 240hp chip remaps (more efficient intercooler required), this would give circa. 370hp/ton-should keep up most. This shows there's alot more to come from this engine, it'll be interesting to see how reliability stacks up. Good to see westfield leading the pack for once. Quote
markcoopers Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I had a drive in this at Rockingham way back in the beging of the year, nice but as Scott says, not my Westfield. To be fair it is probably alot of peoples though, but by far the biggest problem for me was that fact that the seat did not go far enought forward and i could not reach the pedels. Now go easy on me with this, i'm sensative you know. Quote
PeP Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The 1.6 can be chipped to 250bhp so not all bad. The best bit is that the astra vxr 2.0 block is exactly the same dimensions as the 1.6 so it's a straight swop which opens up an unstressed 300bhp with a chip. Quote
steve_m Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 ... who cares whether the clocks look silly ... I thought they looked very good. The car is obviously aimed less technical people than many of us so using the original clocks and what is probably Corsa switchgear is a great idea. Quote
carpetstu Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The one thing that really surprises me with the stringent regs it has had to pass to get into Europe, is the roll bar. I wouldn't entertain buying a Westfield without a RAC roll bar as the standard bar has been proven to be nothing short of useless. looking at the Sport Turbo I would think fitting an after market RAC type bar would be a pig of a job.
