DAVE.B Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Where are you up to with your cambelt replacement? Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted October 31, 2009 Author Posted October 31, 2009 dont ask m8 it is still at cambelters - because the injectors are stuck in the head I am basically shafted - the engine is currently out the choices are 1. recon head plus injectors plus labor - 3k 2. recon engine - even worse 4k plus 3. try to find a replacement 2.2 hdi engine - like rocking horse s***e - unable to find one ATM 4. try to fit a 1.9 td engine the chap at cambelters has found a 1.9 engine and is going to see if it all lines up with gearbox etc on monday total cost if it all fits 1.5k the first two options are out because the car is not worth much more than that just what we needed b4 Christmas - looks like the trip to Disney may be cancelled with the kids Quote
Captain Colonial Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 With respect, I think it's time to write the Citroen off as a loss and buy something else instead. If I were a bad person, I'd take the dog somewhere deserted, break the ignition lock and set fire to it, then report it as stolen and claim on the insurance. It's a good job I'm not a bad person. Those thoughts have crossed our minds I can assure you, but a criminal record is not something I fancy Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Sorry to hear about this mess......... If you do buy another car I wouldn't buy FRENCH again........ sorry to say it, there s***e!!!! I have many friends that used to have French Cars and they were always going wrong You might get more for spares if you break the car down like you have done with your Spyder Good Luck Mate, Quote
sport 2000 Dan Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I hate to say this but if you paid the dealer prices then they would have access to the puller that i previosly mentioned and if the injectors came out then it would be worth the cost wouldnt it?? a dam site less than a new head or engine and it would be back on the road by now. As for not buying French, you better not want a Diesel then because the supply a lot of other manufacturers (being the largest diesel engine manufacturer in the world) this includes Ford,Volvo,Jag,Landrover ect. Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Ford,Volvo,Jag,Landrover And there all the same company....... My VRS Diesel has done 122K and still going strong, the only good think to come out of Germany!!! Touch Wood.... Quote

sport 2000 Dan Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Ok fair enough, im sorry to hear that, as i said before it is not uncommon. i wish you all the best in resolving it as cheaply and quickly as possible Regards, Dan Quote
Bob Green Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 duratecs have chain - thank feck ... and thats what owners of Ford 8v DOHC motors used to think, too... The chain tensioner bolts would work loose, the chain loose all tension causing valve clout. I also believe that as a direct result, it would break the main bearing caps from the block. Years ago, my son’s first car was a Serria Ghia with the DOHC 8 valve job. Somebody in passing mentioned the tensioner issue. I stripped the front of the engine and found the tensioner bolts about to fall out. New bolts and chain later allowed the car to run for years. It could have been a disaster. Quote
stu999 Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Ford,Volvo,Jag,Landrover And there all the same company....... Oh no they aren't!!!! Well, Xmas is fast approaching Quote
speedy jon Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 they still make engines for jag, volvo and landrover at the ford engine plant in bridgend. Quote
sport 2000 Dan Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Yes they do, but the 1.4,1.6,2.0,2.7 and 3.0 HDI's are either made by or in colaboration with PSA Peugeot Citroen (the 2.7 and the 3.0l are made in Dagenham and are a joint venture with jiont desighn teams and shared costings) Jag didnt have a Diesel, hence they purchased the experiance. Ford also have there own engines such as the puma which is rubbish and fitted to some Transits Quote
sport 2000 Dan Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Ohh and forgot the Diesels that they also supply to BMW Quote
windy Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I'd have thought the 1st step would have been to put a new cambelt on it so at least it ran, albeit maybe rough (take a chance?), then if it drives but low on compression find a large tree to drive in into. Sorted! Quote
