Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 a bit of ringing around this morning and searching through yellow pages and cames across a company called Cambelters based in Westwood Peterborough they have quoted £650 - £800 and £25 to collect the vehicle from Citroen and take it 7 miles or so to their premises I shall let you know how things go with this company Quote
Nomexnomad Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Feel for you mate, would be interesting to know how the cheaper company faired.. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 It put me right off Citroen when I found out (and this is true) they made the steering gear for the Titanic - look how well that worked! <!--emo& wasnt that more down to operator error than broken steering Yeah, but if they would have fitted a quicker rack instead of the standard one, it would have turned faster and missed the berg! A reason for upgradeitis! Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 My son's TT cambelt broke before it was due to be changed and that cost his warranty a similar amount - can't recall the exact figure. Belts are one of the greatest retrograde design steps in automotive history IMHO. Happily the good ol' Pinto is a free-running engine and simply stops... Aforementioned offspring has since disposed of the Audi, thank God! Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 yup cambelts are stupid - especially when incorporated into a vehicle that apparently takes 20 hours labor to pull it to bits and put it back together again to sort it duratecs have chain - thank feck Quote
stu999 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 duratecs have chain - thank feck ... and thats what owners of Ford 8v DOHC motors used to think, too... Quote
jeff oakley Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 The belts are not usually the cause of a failure, usually it is down to other things. For example if it is fitted incorrect then it will fail, overtightened ,it will fail, faulty bearings oil contamination it will fail. If they do not have the correct tools to tension it, it will fail. 99.9% of warranties we get from the belts we sell are one of the above. I would be cautious of anyone who has quoted the job without seeing the car. If a belt has gone it may need, valves, followers piston etc etc, they will not know until it is stripped down and then you may get a big shock, if they have quoted get it in writing before they start as I suspect this may be an estimate which is a very different thing. Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted October 13, 2009 Author Posted October 13, 2009 they only do cambelts so was sorta hoping they might know what they are doing - they have said that some valves will most likely need replcaing but with this engine there is usually no bad piston damage will let you guys know when it's done fingers crossed Quote
Martin Keene Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Cleggy Keep us posted. SWMBO Clio 172 needs a cambelt. Renault want something comical like £800, service garage at work want £450, these guys look like they know what they are doing and only charge £485 for a V6 MG ZT. Quote
