Cleggy the Spyder Man
due to company end of year stuff and feeling a bit rough with flu like symptons not too much done but this has not stopped me from floggin some stuff on ebay to bring in a few extra £££ for the spyder project big box of bits arrived today - front beam supports which I cannot work out how they fit yet (b****y obvious you would have thought hey ) amongst various other bits I have fitted the new master cylinder and replaced the knackered track rod end - as usual I rather enjoyed sliming on the copper grease managed to win on ebay tonight a nearly new camber compensator saving £25 on new gonna have a go at the brakes lines next and make up a battery tray of some sort
Cleggy the Spyder Man
well the plot thickens on the front beam supports - they just don't seem to fit so I think I will modify them to make them work - let's face it the bit of angle iron on the end is no work of art so whilst I try to fathom that one I made a start on the front brake lines - now I have used brake flaring tools in the past (uhh humm 20 years or so ago) but really found you might as well chuck the instructions out the window cause they seemed to have little reference to what I actually needed I used the collet as a guide to how far the pipe needed to go through the pipe clamp - much trial and error ended up with the below height - collett on first then a follow up with the cone to finish off - reasonable results although time will tell when I finally get around to testing them not sure where to route the rear brake line yet - beetles have em running in the car on the centre tunnel

slater
Another good source of parts is Mid America Motor Parts, I found even with postage I saved a lot and the quality was excellent. lewis

Cleggy the Spyder Man
- come on spill the beens :bangshead sadly just dreaming dreaming is how these things start was hoping to see a few at Stoneleigh but no such luck although there were quite few nice speedsters there - one good thing did happen with regards the spyder today the good man Trev who has made up my tank for me bought it with him today - great job thanks Trev
dhutch
Ive just spend over an hour going through this thread having tried to ignore it for the last few weeks (really need to do uni work as im a month from the end of a 5 year course) but mid way through a essay on engineering managment seems as good a place from procrataion as any and this is very much on a par with the windy escort thread for procrastonation quality. Thumbs up indeed! for the top of the axle beam I intend to use some tubing - may use some rose joints either end bit like a westy RAC roll bar as the tubes will have to be fitted after the bodywork goes on - should help strengthen up the framework around the pedal area If i was to make one comment when i was half way through it was that, for all the triangulation on the top level, there very little fore-aft or left-right triangulation of the uprights. Cleggy the Spyder Man
thanks Daniel - the side and front/rear support is on the cards there was nothing there before so whatever I do it will be an improvement
Cleggy the Spyder Man
after pickin up my fuel tank from Trev at Stoneleigh it was about time I got going again - tacked up the fuel tank bracket tonigth was going to fit the fuel pump under the tank but after a bit of fiddling about have decided to make up some brackets on the front of the framework - will make access much easier through the front camber compensator picked up off ebay - nearly new finally gave up tonight and ordered a beetle manual - something I was really trying to avoid - buit I have a few parts where I cannot figure out where they go
Cleggy the Spyder Man
somebody pointed out another one that has come up for sale http://www.speedsters.com/horsley.htm make up a loop to hold the fuel fliter and welded up to the tank framework - then used the P clip supplied with the fuel pump to to support the other end then run the fuel pipes leaving a bit of extra length ready for proper fitting at a later stage - I will probably run the fuel pipe through the backbone but would prefer to run under the car, unfortunately the car is flatish underneath so this may be out ! gonna re-weld those beam adjusters as I reckon I can perhaps do a tidier job

Cleggy the Spyder Man
thanks Martin body back on again tonight - thanks Tony the plan of putting the spare wheel back in the front of the front beam has flopped due to the beam adjusters being in the way - yup it really is that tight - so now looks like the spare and the battery will sit in behind the seats somewhere took some more outdoor shots just for inspiration more than anything else yup the fuel tank filler has been left long before the smartarse comments shall be doing the floor with chequer plate I think - anyone know of any cheap sources and what thickness would be suitable 2mm or 3mm? fancy a change so will probably start on the framework that fits behind the seats
