Bam Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Hello, Iv had my Westy for nearly 2 weeks now and Iv noticed that everytime I go out in it I get certain types of people shouting some kind of abuse , However this is a small amount of people compared to the poeple that like it . Does anyone else experiance this or is it just me??? And its not even when I'm driving fast......... Quote
blankczechbook Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 nope, never had that. have you got a loud coloured car ? might be that rather than the speed or noise :-P Quote
twobrutal Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 never..lots of smiles and nods, i even get people taking pics through there car windows but im sure thats not directed at me but the car maybe living in dorset helps.. i get laughed at in the nissan cube though..!! Quote
westy666 Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Fortunately I havent had/noticed any but Ive heard about it happening to people before. where abouts are you when it happens, (so I can remember not to go there!) Assuming you arent driving around like a loon then I put it down to jealousy Quote

Assuming you arent driving around like a loon then I put it down to jealousy It does seem to be in certain areas when I am on my way to different places, so jealousy is what I thought I save the driving like a loon for the quiet out the way roads Quote
Jenko Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Probably Caterham owners :-) Only joking of course... But I've never had this..... Quote
Asterix Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I've had tintop drivers who don't like me overtaking them at below-limit speeds, a cyclist make a barbed comment about my pollution levels and the atypical child who takes a dislike to me driving the car. The only other abuse I get is at the monthly area meet in Shardlow Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I find that a lot of people from abroad tend to shout loudly when they see my car, I thought it was abuse initally but then found out they were shouting words of general excitement ... I have had cars full of migrant worker leaning out of the car windows and generally waving me to go faster etc etc ) most residents of this country are used to seeing them about and although you get many neck benders many prefer not to look as they do not wish to massage anyones ego ... that's us english for you ...me on the other hand I run to the window at home if I hear anything driving past that sounds even vaguely interesting Whenever I fill up in town (try not too) it is usually the migrant workers that seem to flock around the car and show general interest Kids on the other hand can get really loud and shout all sorts (heard one says hears the stig the other day), but I think again it is down to general excitement of seeing this sort of car I always prefer to blat out in groups, especially when going through cities ... Tony and I managed to somehow end up going through Bedford the other day Quote
combatsapph Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Are you sure they are shouting abuse? As the previous poster mentions, everyone who shouts when I drive past is making some kind of compliment, especially the local "yoof". Quote

Yeah, definatley abuse, the most recent one was when i was parked to let my girlfriend go into a shop somebody drove past and shouted YELLOW W#@#ER. They could at least come up with something more inventive Quote
RichP Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I only seem to get abuse shouted at me by a smart but stressed looking chap in a suit whenever I drive past HSBC bank..................... Quote
perksy Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Nope never suffered that Met quite a few drivers who like to pull out in front and see how quickly it stops though Quote
cliveboy8 Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Yeah, definatley abuse, the most recent one was when i was parked to let my girlfriend go into a shop somebody drove past and shouted YELLOW W#@#ER. Just politely raise one finger, normally the middle one and shout at the top of your voice "GO F*CK YOURSELF YOU INGNORANT F*CKING T*AT" Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 I would recommend not to be driving it wearing a suit/shirt/tie etc ... I always tend to look slightly scruffy - jeans blah blah blah Like I said above - best to avoid cities on your own me thinks I can understand why people in Astons and Porsches etc get abuse (not that it is right to do so) because they assume your a rich toff and they are jealous - many are not aware that many of the westies that we drive around in are nowhere near super car money and can cost less than ford focus money to build new and a lot less for secondhand examples Quote
FW500 Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Some muppet in a sheddy Vauxhall Cavalier shouted 'Poser' at me once, but apart from that I've never had any abuse. Didn't bother me in the slightest - after all, EVERYBODY must appear to be a poser if you're driving a Cavalier. Quote
