kitkat Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Hello, I am searching for the best option for the exhaut manifold. After a few search, it seems that 3 common solutions exist : Westfield, Dunnell and Simpsons. Westfield seems the cheapest solution (though 300 !). The car will be used on road (no race, no track day). The engine is a Zetec 1.8 that gives around 150 bhp. Will I feel/hear/see the difference if I invest in a Dunnell or Simpsons exhaut manifold rather than in the original Westfield ? Thank you Quote
chappers Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 The original Ford manifold supplied by Westfield is restrictive so I'd go for a Dunnel or Simpsons one, or the Raceline one like me. Not sure if you'd notice the extra few horsepower you get when on the road, but for aesthetics a Raceline/Simpsons etc. manifold and silencer look great ...Oh no I think I'm turning into a bit of a polisher....No it's O.K. I went for a spin last night in the drizzle. Quote
Paul D Turner Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 No idea if its of any use but I have got a brand new tubular 2 litre Ford 4 into 1 off a crate engine that you could have for not much cash. Paul Quote

Paul Yes why not, to see what it looks like, would you mind to send a picture ? Thank you Quote
Paul D Turner Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Hi Photo e-mailed, Virgin appear to be stopping me posting photo's. Worth noting that there is no substitute for a good manifold, you will never get the HP from the engine if the exhaust is restrictive. Having said that the 136PS tubular Focus manifold is far less restrictive than the cast Mondeo/Escort ones were. Paul Quote
markcoopers Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 For a road car, any of teh ones you mentioned will be fine, don't spend any more than you need. Quote
stephenh Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 In the Westfield catalogue I have (picked up from the factory within the last few weeks) the price of a Zetec manifold is quoted at £246.75 inclusive of vat. I thought it was a fabricated tubular manifold made specifically for a Zetec in a Westie? Quote
westy666 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 WF manifold will suffice for a standard trim road going westy. it's specifically made to fit the wide bodied version though so bare that in mind if you're running a narrow - as it will protrude further out of the bodywork unless modifed slightly. I would only look at the dunnell, raceline et al manifolds if you have an incling that you might do engine upgrades in the future. The WF manifold was designed/tuned to run with their 2litre zetec on carbs engine so fully supports outputs iro of 160bhp but the higher you go over that figure the more likely it is that you would see greater benefits from the 'specialists'. You obviously pay the extra (about double) from the specialists due to them being exactly that. HTH Damian Quote
kitkat Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 Thank you for the answers. I think that I am going to go for the Westfield manifold since the zetec 1.8 won't be tuned anymore (around 150 bhp now). Stephen, you are right, the price is 246 in the catalogue. I mentioned 300 because I had checked on the website : see the link clicky Thank you Quote
kitkat Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 I don't know what is the real price (web or catalogue), I am going to give a call and also ask for the shipping costs. Quote

chris7273 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Hi JEM, I could be interested, if this a manifold like this (general shape from the westfield shop, here we have a 4-2-1 but I think the Zetec one is 4-1) : and not like this : Please send me an email to chris7273 (at) yahoo dot com Thank you I have paid my membership fee but I have to wait before the activation of my account. JEM Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Hi Chris, The manifold is a 4 into 1, and is a westfield item. It has the exit opposite to the one in your photo. I will send you some photos later. Jem Quote
