Fent Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I'm sorry and don't mean to offend anyone but can someone explain why they have an aeroscreen and then wear a full face helmet. May as well stay with a screen. Only my opinion. A good aeroscreen should mean that you have, at worst, a gentle breeze in your face. At 100+ I can raise my open hand (to the wind) without a problem. However, if I then raise my hand so my wrist is next to my face my arm is nearly broken. This could also be why I've never been hit by anything, could it be that it's picked up and taken over my head. So, to answer the above question about may as well just remove the screen, then NO. Is that the problem, badly designed aero's? I used to have a windscreen but as I am 6ft 2 I felt very claustraphobic as the rim of the top of the windscreen, the top of the doors and the rear view mirror were all right in my eye line, I had to duck to see out of the car. I now have an aeroscreen and wear a full face helmet and I would never go back. the aeroscreen has transformed my experience in the car. I do not personally understand the reluctance of wearing a helmet, it does not restrcist my vision in any way and the sensation of the wind in my hair is wasted on my. I have not had that feeling for years. The cold wind on a shaved head is just not the same. Aeroscreen for all round visibility helmet for protection# I wouldn't have it any other way... but you just need to find out what suits you (resists the temptation to say "windscreens are for girls" especially after getting slapped on the helmet by a pheasant) Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I've had a aero now for several years, I'm still convinced that there is less wind disturbance with the aero. I will wear a helmet on very cold or wet days but I can't say I really enjoy wearing it, willeys, and a pair of ear plugs are the way. Yes there's a chance of airborne impacts but in my mind there's also a chance of the suspension brackets or similar failing. I won't be going back to screen Quote
Tom Frankland (T3OMF) Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I have just gone to the Aeroscreen and have only driven the car a hand full of times, I must say you get less buffeting than with just the Windscreen. I think it all depends on at what angle you fit the screen tho.... I have been wearing Skiing Goggles as they go over my glasses....... and this is fine for short blasts. If I was going further IE on a motorway I would wear the helmet every time I understand about things flicking up and hitting you and stuff like that but that out of my control, you could look at it the other way, if a rock came up and hit the windscreen on the passenger or drivers side and shattered the screen and you couldn't see and drove into a ditch because you couldn't see, if you had an aeroscreen fitted you wouldn't be in the ditch..... Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 let's face it - the real danger in these vehicles is from being involved in a collision or going unintended off roading, much of this being based on how fast you want to drive the thing I was on the motorway last week and my helmet took a stone at full pelt - that would have been a hospital job without me lid - I found both methods too uncomfortable without a helmet anyway (although I have never had the half doors) Quote
dombanks Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 contrary to my earlier post i have now got a screen/scuttle and a aero scuttle combo so i can have either senario on the car. i really like the aero and its deffo fine at most speeds, i just find that after a while on the motorway breathing becomes strained a bit like on a very cold day. at most cruisy sunday blat speeds its great with a pair of goggles/headphones on. BUT impacts do bother me a little. wrt to the setup of the screen i know when i went to sva i had nothing on as speed incresed the wind caused my helmet to feel like it was getting sucked off my head. as soon as the areo went on it was much better and less buffety. i got the screen cos when your not on your own it is impossible to talk without shouting or intercom and swmbo would prefer a screen but tbh when she's in the car i dont blat as hard. i think swmbo will want to come out more with the screen on so thats why i got it if anyone want to compare the two back to back feel free to come to mine and have a go and a cuppa (when the car is back on the road that is....as soon as my clutch arrives) Quote
