Once you put an aero on you'll never go back to a screen.   :D

Agreed, although yet to persuade swmbo.

Aero = The Future.

The best advice I can offer on this subject is this. A freind of ine decided to convert to aero, but he didn't want to lose the benefits of a screen for longer runs. So he bought a new scuttle from Westfield, along with a aeroscreen.

He then went to the trouble of mounted the dashboard to the chassis instead of the scuttle. Removing everything from the windscreen scuttle that wasn't connected to washer/wipers/etc. The end result was beautifully engineered and resulted in a set up that could be swapped from aero to screen in 5 minutes tops including function wipers, washers, etc.

As the car had a windscreen to start with, the first test drive was done with the aeroscreen scuttle.

The windscreen scuttle never saw the car again and was sold a few years later.

Well I did  :0

My problem was not really the aeroscreen (actually a 'just the one' aerolip) although I felt a bit exposed and vulnerable, the problem was wearing a helmet all the time and missing out on the wind in the hair, flies on your teeth experience.

Each to his own.

can I respectfully suggest that if you feel exposed with an aero and take to wearing a helmet you should never have even thought about an aero let alone fit one.

The only time I wore a helmet was in torrential rain on the M6.

only whimps wear a helmet

you can get speacial sun glasses that seal to your face like goggles

will say though god it hurts if you get caught in a rain shower and you cant stop

A personal thing I guess, but on the pro screen side :

I prefer a screen - cus...

1. I'm not keen on wearing a crash helmet, I prefer the outdoor feeling of a naked head, especially in about town driving in hot weather, also I feel visability is restricted with a helmet.

2. If I want to take anyone out they have to get a helmet. ( Mrs Hammy doesn't like Helmets :p)

3. If you have wind deflectors and a screen the buffeting is not a problem.

4. I would have thought a bird strike or similar without a helmet could have very serious consequences.

5. Car looks better with a screen - although i've seen cutdown screens that look very cool

I have to admit the only thing putting me off slightly about an aeroscreen in having to wear a helmet. I see some people say they don't wear one. Just sunglasses/goggles. Surely the smallest stone hitting you in the head at 70mph (of course I would never travel above that speed) is going to do some damage?

I like the idea of a aearo but my like many I would feel that I would have to wear a helmet all the time which does not apeal much - tbh not wearing a helmet with an aearo is gonna end in tears at some point

If you keep well away from the vehicle in front you will not get git by flying stones, you see them arc up and fall in front of you. Stones thrown up from oncoming traffic that might come sideways would be just as dangerous with a screen (and no doors).

i went through a similar thought process last year but decided that if i'd put so much importance on the 'what if's' then I wouldnt have got the car in the first place so I did it anyway ... ballistic goggles and a some common sense when theres gravel around and I havent had a single incoming missle since.

Lets face it - an arctic lorry could just as easily drive over you at a junction being so low to the ground :)

i was out last week - aeroscreen helmet - came across oncoming tractor just came off a field - its tyres were mingingly muddy - i mean chucking it all over - could see it coming - i was probably doing less than 20mph when i passed it oncoming - a bit of mud hit the visor and i'm not kidding - i kakked myself! that would of caused some serious hurt without any protection... sorry but going oot with nowt more than glasses is asking for it.. suppose you could adjust the seat to be as low as poss to the eyeline / top of the aero screen but that might be off putting a bit.

the full screen is good against stones etc and enables a roof - but it depends on what you want and more importantly what you can put up with.. no screen - your gonna get it - screen - you might get it

I had only had my westy on the road two weeks and a large stone knocked off my small number plate which was quite firmly velcro'd on (the plate is low I know so maybe not a good example, but if the stone had of flipped up higher it would have been serious without a helmet and no screen)

And in just 1200 miles of Westy driving I have experianced on one occasioon a stone thrown up onto the screen

In 3-4 years (used as pretty much my daily drive for 1-2 years) of driving my striker with a winscreen (with no sidescreens) I never had anything thrown up the side - apart from getting very wet through large puddles)

You have to remember that you are a lot lower than other vehicles, plus you have objects travelling at speed, for example if you are only doing 30mph and the stone is doing 20mph that's a 50 mph impact ...ouch
