The server has loads of spare capacity and horsepower and the mySQL backend is only lightly loaded with a comparitively small database.

However the line is been used at full capacity during the day. Having checked a few things it turns out my off site server replication/backup on one of my off-sites has the clock set wrong causing it to run during normal day. This has been resolved and should speed things up somewhat....

It's worked though.  Westy - I have 24/7 internet for £9.99 per month and broadband costs a lot more than that AFAIK.  Have broadband at work if I need it.

512k DSL is down to c. £20 a month now.  Modems ARE on their way out for most people.

Aaaah I'm not that good at timekeeping so I like my severs to be a little flexible....... I do run nettime but need to get round to putting in cron...

DSL..... ooooh if only. Round my way we have to be lucky to get running water. I'll be on ISDN or modems for years yet....

My parents are in the same situation in Dumfries.  Champagne corks if they get 33.6k
