Cleggy the Spyder Man

Recommended Posts

There is a slightly larger - wider? version of the rad. IIRC it's a Golf rad, though I couldn't tell you which model, that some have used. There have been reports of it being to wide for some installations though - I believe Scott had that problem when looking for a rad for the Boghouse.

Lots of high power XE engined sprinters have used the VW Polo rad without problems though, over the years. Though to be fair when I sprinted mine, I never had an overheating issue on track - short runs help there I guess. But I did one very hot Three Slappers sprint have issues on the way home - that's when I first discovered the Motorway speed cooling creep. Not normally a major issue but after a day of sprinting in very hot weather, the car would only maintain a constant or reducing temperature if kept below fifty/sixty mph.

After modifying the block with a conrod snapping a few weeks ago, my latest mod was sticking a new engine and box in at the weekend there.

Next mod is a new exhaust system and a lightweight rad, then cylinder head work on the head which came off the knackered engine.

Good to have the car running again.

Treated myself to a quick release steering boss - my goodness, is it ever easier to get in and out of my narrow chassis car now, should have done that years ago. :bangshead:  :t-up:

Drilled holes through my JK composite seats and the floor below and fitted some 19mm black plastic strengtheners to drain out all the rainwater.

(Must sort out my oil pressure problem :(  :( )

After an incident at Oulton park mines away getting some head work done, and whilst there im also getting a new rad and fan, new hoses, a new gel racing battery and a rolling road session to get the carbs sorted.

Should have it back in the next month, just as the weather starts to go crap :(

After that, its time to save some pennies and try and get a cage and aero screen fitted over the winter.
