Karl Woolf Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 karl.. from what the mush at Bmw told me the judder 9/10 will be flywheel reckons they supply loads strangley mine was fine , if yours is under 3 years or 60k its a warrenty job, mine is 30,000 miles and 3 years and 2 weeks old Jeff`s sorry to hear it mate mines 3 years 2 months old (55reg) with 61k on the clock so no warranty claim there. Like I said my judder has gone away, is there any other way to check. Bought mine from online supermarket (Autoquake), so may have some comeback if I get in soon Actually bet you would know, what time and recall do you have on trade purchase under statutory rights. Wouldn`t want to hand it back as it was a good price Quote
JeffC Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 30 days is the norm but often depends on how you bought it and what you paid in relation to its value.. fire it back at them they will sort it I would have thought ps. was that the lemans blue estate car they had on ebay? Quote
Karl Woolf Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 bought as a straight public purchase at asking price, need to make sure there is problem to claim though might put it in at a BMW dealer to check it. Yeah its le mans blue, they dropped price after xmas to 11k, thought it was too good to miss. No leather, but xenons, heated seats and towbar, 4 k on new set of tyres. Quote

Karl Woolf Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 yeah wanted to px myself but they stopped doing it end of nov. Price started at 14.5k seem to be fetching at least that if not 15k+ in the trader so very happy with the price Quote
ljsanders Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Grrrrrr..... Just driven 900 miles from Portsmouth to North Wales and back (including serious miles whilst up there) since Sunday with me and the missus and a car loaded up with gear. Uphill overtakes past trucks etc and the clutch was slipping almost everytime. Take it for a whilst you wait appointment to the Honda dealer this morning and the tw@t did the handbrake stationary test. Guess what? No slip. Took it to the M27 on an uphill stretch for a blat... No slip. The tw@t in the garage was driving.... Of course, if I was driving things would have been different. Tried to give me a driving lesson by saying it was my driving style, I need to give it more beans!! Wouldn't accept my argument, lower down the rev.range means more stress on the drive-chain. Fuming is an understatement. Defo won't be buying another Honda again. Makes you wonder with financial troubles like these, warranty claims for high value repairs will be harder to claim for. At least its on record, so if there is a remote chance it breaks before the warranty runs out in two months time, I might stand a chance getting a new one. Quote
Nic Ayre Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Got DMF trouble with my 03 Mondeo TDCi, dealer has quoted about £1100 for DMF and clutch. Ford have had lots of trouble with Transits fitted with DMF's and now do a solid flywheel conversion, so does that mean they are admitting that these DMF units are no good? Unfortunately they don't do a kit for the Mondeo!! Best quote I have had so far is £880 for DMF and clutch. Looks like these DMF's are not fit for purpose and I personally think the manufacturers should discount the units to restore consumer faith, give the car a couple more years and it will cost more than the car is worth. peterg Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 after reading all these tales of woe I so glad both our cars have a DSG gearbox and before anyone says they're crap after 40k miles or you can't tow with them or some other rumour mines over 44k and SWMBO's car is on 73k with no probs whatsoever just an oil and filter change every 40k Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 You've already had your share of gearbox woes tho Peter Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 mines still slipping and that's the way it's gonna be left for the time being Quote
peterg Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 QUOTE You've already had your share of gearbox woes tho Peter yeah don't need reminding about that car Quote
windy Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 We the consumer are pushing the technology by demanding more and more from our cars and then do a good job at complaining about the problems when we have to pay for them. Lets face it we have come a long way from a MkII Escort for a daily drive. I do wonder what would happen if they put something like a MKII escort back on sale again how many people would go out and by a underpowered, poor handling, uneconomic and noisy car or go and buy the car with all the toys on it and then complain about the repair cost. How dare you diss the MK2 Escort Tis a fine car Clutch costs £25 and can be fitted in about an hour using about 3 spanners. Ah those were the days of cheap simple motoring when it was a joy to get to everything with ease. Now go and wash your mouth out with soap and water Quote
kevinlvy Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Dual mass flywheels do go wrong, but the biggest problem is there was no way of testing them properly until last year, when LUK brought out the tool to test them. Most garages and dealers had no way of testing other than rocking side to side and feeling for play, most still not have the tool now. It has therefore become common practise to replace everything because if you put a new clutch onto a worn (not badly worn) DMF it will soon damage the new clutch, and no one wants to do 8 or so hours labour to then argue who was right who was wrong if it goes wrong. All the parts are available from the usual motor factors and the tool is around £200 via LUK stockists. As always you need the knowledge of how to use it as well as. Now you will hear some say to replace with a solid flywheel conversion, (not sure if one is available for the accord) however if you do all the vibration from the engine which the DMF takes out will go straight to your gearbox and knacker it. before doing anything like that ask yourself if any major manufacturer could have saved money and fitted a solid flywheel why didn't they? If your car has a high mileage but has been motorway miles you will probably not need to replace it, if it has done say 50K of normal commuting then it will probably need changing. hey thank you for the information here, now i have to stay away from those dual mass flywheels, also check the garage that they do have a tester for them. thanks!
