John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Now lets be fair here - the houses were there first I dont think its anything to do with noise really. The real reason lies in the fact that this country has adopted a sue culture and see it as a chance for a pay out in compensation Quote
MK11 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 More nonsense on the radio this morning. A Cornish fishing village has had planning granted for a jetty to assist the local fishermen land their catch worth £1m per year to the local economy. Fine so far. Where it all goes t**s up is that the application has been blocked by the non resident owners of second homes in the village. They don't want their nice views impaired by those nasty smelly locals who actually have to work for a living. The only complainant that was actually interviewed was an investment broker of some sort in London who was trying to suggest that the local economy somehow benefited more from him letting out the house for a part of the year, hmm let me think, to where would the rental income go, the local economy or London? Plus, would the holiday lets actually suffer that much from giving the harbour a jetty? Quote

He lived in Mayfair and had the cheek to tell the locals of a Cornish village how they should live. Maybe he could buy all the fishermen ice cream shops and pizza parlours to take advatage of all the tourist business he brings the village by kindly letting out his 2nd/3rd/4th property! These banking types have absolutely no shame, they just don't see the world like normal people! Seeing what's happening to these types of villages gives me a certain sympathy for the welsh lot that used to burn down 2nd houses! Quote
cast iron Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 If Croft has to close, perhaps we should write to Darlington Council suggesting that perhaps the site should be used for a "new town" with plenty of social housing provision, drive thru McDonald's, and a vast, largely empty trading estate for the locals to use for joy-riding and impromptu drag-racing events. if anyone wants to write , its actually Richmondshire borough council - ya see its in Yorkshire Quote
slippy Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Contact is Lynsey Wilson Richmondshire District Council, Swale House, Frenchgate, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 4JE Phone: 01748 829100 Fax: 01748 825071 enquiries@richmondshire.gov.uk I am awaiting a call back from her to see what/who we would voice our concerns to and what is the best route of doing so Quote
effinG Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 What an outrage. If the house is too far from the road, does anyone know someone with a helicopter and a night flying licence??? Found there are a couple of petitions up and running already http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savecroftcircuit/ and http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=56260629746 Surprised no-ones already started one at Number 10? http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ Quote
mark.anson Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Someone local needs to lobby the local MP, AND make sure every single local business in the area that gets trade as a result of the circuits existance, is aware of these developments (dont assume they do) and encourage them to take action as it THIER livelyhoods that will be affected. Sure we can protest all we want, but most of us dont live in the area, it is the local businesses etc that will have a stronger voice than us. As the protestors..........goodness me. The new traveller site idea appeals to me!!! Wonder if the circuit will sell a bit to us cheap!! Quote
cast iron Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 I think we should persuade the Brumfield boogy bus to attend the sprint Quote
DavidR Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Found the previous petition about rejecting complaints about pre-existing noise etc..livewithit petition and here is the discouragingresponse from government Quote
juansolo Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Surprised no-ones already started one at Number 10? http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/ Because they sent a clear message out with the road charging one. Even if you get nigh on 2 million signatures, we'll still do what we b****y well like anyway. Petitions don't work sadly. Quote
mark.anson Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 never mind. I know of an ideal alternative venue. And the neighbours are great. Quote
jeff oakley Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Well that appears to be that now. The appeal judges have sided with the judge and also added that the restriction to Just 40 days would be correct as well. It really is intolerable that these people can win such a stupid case. As Croft point out they will now see a raft of claims from others who see a quick profit as Croft cannot now win. Quote
Flyball Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Real shame.... This was never about noise as far as I read it. How can 3 (THREE) individuals have so much clout. NO this has more to do with the family ties i think. I wonder just how much money was brought in to the area when the likes of the BTCC came to town??. So sorry Croft. Rich Quote
