stephenh
Thanks Barney. Mark said the regs and dates should be out before Christmas, and you've done the business. I presume I only need to fill in and return the registration page, not all 7 pages?

Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
Copy of e-mail sent to all 2008 drivers Dear 2008 Speed Series Driver, I hope that you have all enjoyed the 2008 season and have some good memories to treasure, hopefully not to many bad ones ! Don’t forget the key event of them all the Awards Presentation in February, everyone is most welcome, irrespective of if you have an award to collect, it is always a good night, with plenty of banter about the new season. We have now managed to confirm the events for 2009 and I enclose the 2009 Regulations for you. In general there has been little change. However there are 2 changes of note, 1) the need to Marshall to get an Award Trophy has been removed. 2) At the WSCC Curborough event in June anyone who enters and breaks the timing beam in practice or timed run will be given an one extra point. I have also enclosed a copy of the MSA Rule changes for 2009, as printed in the Motorsport Now magazine which you should all receive. We have represented to the MSA the various concerns that have been raised on some of these and I am pleased that the “Dry break fuel coupling” is now only for British championships, so will not affect the Speed Series. However the requirement for CATS has not changed. We have obtained clarification on this rule and it is the date of your chassis manufacture that is the crucial one. Chassis manufactured on or before 31/12/1999 will not need to have CATS fitted. The requirement for classes is NOT as in the blue book, it does not take effect until January 2010, there was a printer error. Below is their comment that has been sent out. Clarification for Sprint and Hillclimb competitors The Motor Sports Association would like to draw attention to an omission in the 2009 Competitors’ and Officials’ Yearbook within Section I – Sprints, Hillclimbs and Drag Racing. Regulation (I)68 governing Categories and Classes in Sprint and Hillclimb events should read as follows: Categories 68. Categories and Classes are free, but must be stated in the SR’s. The following are recommended, and where used, must comply with the regulations printed in (I)70 to (I)132 respectively. These Categories will be mandatory from 1st January 2010. Categories are defined in the following regulations (70-132). Classes within those categories are free but must be stated in the SRs. __ Road-Going Series Production Cars Cars complying with 70-81 Road-Going Specialist Production Cars Cars complying with 70-81 Modified Limited Production Cars Cars complying with 82-102 Modified Specialist Production Cars Cars complying with 82-102 Hill Climb Super Sports Cars Cars complying with 103-122 Sports Libre Cars Cars complying with 123-129 Racing Cars Cars complying with 130-132 For the avoidance of doubt, this confirms that Categories and Classes remain free for 2009, but will become mandatory in 2010. As organisers we are still establishing the exact implications on our championship and will let you know once we know. Posting rumour and speculation on the boardroom does not help the situation and can just worry people, so please only post actual facts. I should like to thank you for your participation this year and I hope to see you back in 2009. In the meantime I hope you will have an enjoyable Christmas Break. Best wishes Nick Algar WSCC Competition Secretary & Championship Coordinator

a4gom
Flippin Nora, just looked at dates. I better get my finger out Half the events I planned to do are over by the 9th of May and all I have is a bare chassis which wasn't designed for the engine which is sat on the floor at the side of it! Oh and I've got two rooms which I need to put wood flooring down, skirting and architrave to fit and stain, doors to hang, radiators to change etc etc before I'm allowed in the gargage and I can't do owt till after this ridiculous time and money consuming event later in the week..... TrevorC
Great stuff, Nick! However I still need a bit of clarification (two days before Christmas and haven't finalised my list to Santa yet!!) Reading the 2009 Blue Book Race suit Section [C©] 79 states Racing: FIA 8856-2000 FIA 1986 Standard * *Withdrawn with effect from 01/01/10 Does this mean I can use my single layer Proban suit for 2009? Helmet Section [C©] 92 states All MSA Events BS 6658 - 85 Type A* *Withdrawn with effect from 01/01/10 Does this mean I can use my current helmet (Type A) during 2009? Sorry to be a pain but need to factor in replacement costs into next years budget Trevor

Sorry to be a pain but need to factor in replacement costs into next years budget Trevor Hi Trevor & all other competitors. This is my understanding of the rules, the scrutineer on the day may interpret them differently, so please don't take what I say below as gospel. For a definate answer ask your local scrutineer, address in back of Blue Book. Overalls ( Unchanged from 2008 C© 78, says overalls can be made of Proban. C© 81 All other events (eg Sprints & Hillclimbs) then lists the following specs: BS 6249 Part 1 index A or B, but NOT C BSEN533 pr EN533:1995 Index 3 FIA 8856-2000 FIA 1986 Standard So as long as your overalls comply with the above, you should be OK. C© 79 is for Racing. Helmets:- Rule C© 92 Allows BS 6658 Type A, but this is discontinued from 1/1/2010. My reading of this is you are OK for 2009, but not after. Santa present for Dec 2009 I would therefore suggest that if you used them OK in 2008, they should be OK for 2009, but Helmets are changing in 2010. Hope that helps.
