Welcome to the Madhouse!!

Why not a Crossflow? More than happy with mine and lots of tuning opportunity, although can get expensive.

Much to do to get the Westy on the road?

Get a wriggle on and finish it but be very careful parts for SE narrows are becoming very hard to obtain and they're not always SVA friendly  ;)  ;)

Have a look and search through the FAQ section and you'll find your answer  ;)  ;)  :)

Take a look at Zetecs or VX if you want soemthing more modern.

Just get it on the road ASAP  :D

For simplicity and ease - drop a xflow or a Pinto in it.

For something more modern, drop a Zetec or a VX in it.

Without knowing the rest of the spec, a Duratec might be a bit of an overkill.

I reckon an 1800 Zetec would be a nice choice - I am however more than happy with the tune Pinto I just built my kit with :-)  I just ignore the boat anchor comments.

As for where to get them?  Try ebay or one of the many engine builders, SBD, Vulcan, Specialise Engines, Raceline etc

If it hasn't got an engine or box, don't see how it can be any harder dropping in a modern 16V unit. ???

I guess its all the mucking about with pulleys alternator mountings, engine mounts, igntion systems and so forth. You can after all drop a pinto/xflow in with all its ancilleries in place, (probably  inc the rad!), carbs the lot and it would work.  A good 1300 GT is not to be sniffed at either.

- just need an alloy sump or a cutdown steel one.

The *big* question is of course wots your budget and fabrication/welding skill  that really dictates the choice.

IMO I'd still go the modern 16v route, could be done for about £2000 - £2500 all in using a scrapper motor; esp as finding a good pinto or x/flow would cost more than a mondeo motor.
