dhutch Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Currently to drive the feild im taking my left shoe off, somtimes both. - Im size 12 in trailers and most of my shoes are flatsoled skateshoes which i used for mt biking (my other hobbie). Obviously theres scope for moving pedels and the like, but for a for a first step it seams to make sence to invest in some suitable shoes. Which im sure would solve the problem. So im just wondering really what i should be looking for, wheres cheapest to buy, and if there is any point in paying £150 over £65? Use will be road driving trackdays, so idealy somthing that doesnt look toooo silly/bright so i can go to the shops in them but otherwise whatever really. Also if anyone has anything second hand in a sort of 10/11/12 sort of size!! Daniel Quote
Dave Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 If you get kart boots they are cheeper Dave Quote
Hammy Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I've got a soft pair of trainers, on the small side, I use with a thin pair of socks. Paid about £10 and they are ideal for road use. Quote
Ross Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Daniel, I hacve size 13/14 feet and get my trainers from oddball shoes in america. They do Puma trainers i.e. speedcats which i don't have any problems with driving the westie Ross Quote
dhutch Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 If you get kart boots they are cheeper Interesting to know, i'll have a look at them. - Are they in any way diffrent or than price, lighter build prehaps? Still suitable? Quote
dhutch Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Otherwise as hammy and ros have said, i might be going a bit ott and could just get some black speedcats and call it a day! Quote
stephenh Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 The fia race boots are made of suede and nomex, so as to be flame proof AFAIK, whereas I dont think kart boots will have nemex linings. So if you think you might want to do some competition get racing boots, but otherwise get karting boots. Quote
dhutch Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 No plans to compeate, although im planning to do a few trackdays and the like. I would like to do some sprint runs to, but again, im not planning anythign competative simply because i dont have the time or money to be able to maintain such a comitment at the moment. Without loosing my degree anyway. Daniel Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I have had 2 pairs of these perfect for the job Sparco Kart Boots Now got some proper momo nomex boots as I got them cheap on the bay. Plenty of bargains on the bay Quote
dhutch Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Fiar enough. Ive been on the bay looking for bargins, just a case of waiting till my size comes up. That and hoping i get the right size. - Most of my trailers etc are 12's but in shoes im more like a UK10. Does confirm that its the fire retardence thats the main diffrence. Ive done competition karting, in kart shoes. Daniel Quote
Mark B Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 I'm size 14 & can only drive in karting boots (or barefoot), bought mine for £20 from the autosport show a few years ago, I can dig out the number of the place if you want? Cheers, mark. Quote
Ian Podmore Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Daniel My other driving 'shoes' apart from the oens i was wearing on Thursday are a pair of kart boots I've had for years. Even used them for sprinting as well with Nomex socks. You can't go wandering around too much with either race or kart boots as the soles are really thin for good feel of the pedals. Ian Quote

Yeah, seams like some kart boots would be well upto the job. I was bidding on some speedcats just before came out to shardlow as well although i didnt actaully win them. - A pair of proper FIA spec boots are proberbly a little over the top! And driving in socking feet doesnt seam too clever! Daniel Quote
