Right .... kart bits ,where to buy ...

start here for nearly everything you need

http://www.kkckartshop.com/

http://www.dartfordkarting.co.uk/

should get the seats you want next day , forget demon tweaks they are just dabbling in karting stuff and are supplied by those 2

jeff , get yourself a sniper laser alignment tool and set up everything parralel to start with , no toe no camber and minimal caster , about 20mm of spacers inside the wheel and then play from there , half to one degree maybe where you end up ,but setup is different from circuit tocircuit and ride heights make huge changes to handling.

Its way more complicated than setting up cars god knows why but it just is , at least you arn't running a max engine ,i now have a mechanich who runs the Kart , and someone who runs the weather station , and laptop to work out jetting prior to every run , and jetting will sometimes be different for every heat depending on how stable the weather is ?

no wonder the budget to race the 10 round super 1 championship in what was formula A is somwhere in the region of 80 to 100k , i kid you not .

Thats why these kids don't really struggle to move up to cars as in many cases the budgets are smaller , or the same if the go to something like formula BMW.

for me karting costs way more than running the westy .... and all this b*****k about somebody has to loose and making up the numbers etc etc ... you have to start with the thought you can win

oh and the budget in super one , there are big numbers involved ... a few years ago the cheating got silly with a father picking up a 30k fine and 13k costs from the msa , his sun now runs in gp2 so lets say they have talent and a budget , you think f1 has political fights and b***hing , karting takes it to a whole new level

I have seen rotax max engines change hands for in excess of 10k , brand new they are currently 1400 quid  mine has cost 2.5k and is totally legal , its a complete farce ..... keep it fun and enjoy it but i can see the likes of jeff and pete getting sucked into racing , they just need to know there isn't an end to it once you start.

totally agree with Harv.

i bought a rotax max after my bike accident.. thinking it would be cheap/fun racing...

My first day testing, and one of the 'racers' cut me totally out forcing me into the litter giving me the nescafe sign     we had a chat ion the pits afterwards... i actually had black plates on etc. so obvious i was a newbe... and given i had raced gearbox karts before i was holding decent lines and reasonable pace.

I then found a 'friendly' club.. but even there, a few big budget formula ford boys used it for fun/training with silly budgets..

the set up is WAY more technical than a car too... but for me to an annoying degree..

keep it fun lads and don't get carried away - the pro karts are great crack if you keep it real

i have just sat here and printed off new data analasys stuff

100 pages of new maual to digest , a new firmware upgrade to not dangler up on the logger its self , a weather station to calibrate , the list goes on and on , as i said before i have got to the point where i have to have someone to do the data side , from recording and analasys to weather and crap , and all just for karting ...

I sat want went through 100 laps of data from our last outing at the track we are at saturday and sunday and found we actually had in split times a lap that was 2 10ths faster than the fastest lap all weekend ,  that means we had the ability to find and be the quickest . however ultimately we didn't have the time to look at the time , but if someone is doing that then its the edge , its so so much more technical than most club racing , however when you go into the relms of high level motorsport its just what they have to do , and the reason budgets are high and teams have huge amounts of staff ....

there is NO cheap motorsport.

i hate the fact its as technical as it is and thats before driving , but its the truth .

prokarts and endurance racing , thats where you wanna be to have fun.

We wont be going racing I dont think, all this competetive business is because jeff cant stand getting walloped! :D

I believe Dippy is thinking about racing in the pro-karts though. :t-up:

well stripped a few unwanted bits off..

starter motor weighs just under 6lb with its wiring

battery was 5.4lbs

dunno what happened on scales the other day but something wasnt accurate , weighed on the official scales 4 times to make sure  :D  my kart now weighs in at 12 stone 4 lbs  or 78kg in new money  :suspect:  :suspect::t-up: so with my mass and helmet at 3lbs im now at 163kg in the kart  :t-up:  :t-up:

weighed Logs kart and added 1stone to get him up to weight, weighed dippys but he needs 4stone of ballast  :0  :0

needed to sort out the the front end on mine so made a string line box and set up the front track, was about 7mm out  :(  spot on now though  :t-up:

Jeff,

Did you set the camber as well or not ?

Fail to see how this can be set without by a specialist tool  :bangshead:

mmm, not sure if it has a bracket, the kart is sat on the floor in the greenhouse, you cant move round it or get it out really but I'm sure we could squeeze some scales underneath it if need be. Pop round tonight if you want, will just have to clear some stuff. Or saturday when we have it out anyway. I am eager to know though! :)

A very good friend of mine is just on the verge of his first championship win in the billand series at Warden Law. He has told me so much about setup it is unbeleeeee

vable and the costs involved. He said the pro kart boys are paying up to £5000 into a kart to find an extra 2 10ths of a second :(  :(
