dhutch Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Out of insterested, where did you do the test and how much did it cost? Lessons? Daniel Quote
MARTIN T Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 i passsed my b+e on wednesday and i dont care what anyone says its really hard to do. same test as hgv same total driveing time same routes and same measured reverse total time of 1 and a half hours I was the same as you makein excuses and addin figures then i saw a trailor get tipped over and i think if you have the b + e if sumit goes wrong even under 3500 atleast you can prove that your at a standard I do agree with what you mean about the training, but I didn't want to part with £500 for the trailer test and 2 days of work un-paid, that is why I am going to de-plate my van to 2500kg with dvla, before this topic was raised on here I didn't know I was in the wrong with what I was doing and so I have been towing wy westy for 3 years now and not had a problem with safety at all, but I do take care with it as it would probrally cost £30000 to replace my westy and van, the money I have saved on not doing the test is going towards a full cage Quote
headland blue Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 the test cost 105. Ihad a 1 hr assessment then a 5 hr lesson then my test which i hired the car for 3 hours and it was 35 pounds a hour 315 in total 420 with test I could of used my own car a trailor but i think its better to hire i passed first time plus way i look at it is you will spend time and effort changeing plates etc that will be great for now but when you get older im sure you will want to tow more. i passed first time and ive got it now. £60 pound fine 3 points and your car towed if you get caught that will rack up to your test fee its a hard one i do agree to part with the cash and time of work Quote
dhutch Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Sounds fair enough, at the moment i have about £25 in the bank account untill my loan comes in £1000ish to last till gone christmas. So a roll bar, tyres for the feild, tin top tyres and breaks, starter motor, food, drink, and petrol are all on the list above a test. Its something i wouldnt mine, and the time isnt a huge issue although im busy, but for now for the miles im doing with it anyway, and as im actaully techinically legal without it its not going to happen. Would be nice for someone else to put me through it tho. Got my pyro-storage cert jobbie through work last year which was nice. Daniel Quote

windy Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 So does this rule only apply to young drivers? At that price to pass your test lets hope it'll get some caravans off our roads in future heh! Quote
headland blue Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 anyone who passed after 1997. There is ways around it you can tow over on l plates say if you have someone old next to you Quote
dhutch Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Yes, basicaly. - If you passed after jan 1997 your limit is 3.5tonne. Where as if you passed before its 8.25 tonnes. And 3.5 tonne is just a bit borderline for a car and car trailer. Daniel Quote
