Blatman Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 blatters does that have that thing I need for omex Yes it does. That's why I suggested it. It has everything you need... Quote
Pilot Pete Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I agree with blatters, I would get one that already has the correct port rather than use an adapter. I'll see if my workmates one has a serial port tomorrow but if it doesn't, I wouldn't bother. I think that 40 odd quid jobby would do you, ugly and boring as fook, but does the job cheaply. But I'm guessing your also after a safe haven for your erm erm, important documents. Quote
pete g Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 remember a good battery is important on a laptop unless you want to to have mains nearby all the time Quote
danmo Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 the dell i suggested has the port u need too I also think it's better spec Dan Quote

Blatman Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Not all the USB to RS232 converters actually work as you may think, and even if they do, be prepared for some com port fun, which you'll no doubt be on to us about They're both cheap enough for a punt though... Quote

Pilot Pete Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I havent re-booted it, I have cleaned it up and defragmented it. Seems ok. I'll bring it round after tea. I havent got an XP media edition disc so was a bit reluctant to re-install, but seems ok. I'm using it right now. I'll let you use it a little while, if you think its not up to scratch, I'll re-install windows. Quote
