I agree with blatters, I would get one that already has the correct port rather than use an adapter. I'll see if my workmates one has a serial port tomorrow but if it doesn't, I wouldn't bother.

I think that 40 odd quid jobby would do you, ugly and boring as fook, but does the job cheaply.

But I'm guessing your also after a safe haven for your erm erm, important documents. :D  :p

remember a good battery is important on a laptop

unless you want to to have mains nearby all the time

got the one of Petes mate, havnt a clue what it is or what its got but Pete reckons its a god buy  :oops: think its a toshiba  and he said it should be good enough for surfing FrankyVorn  :oops:  :devil:

anyway it hasnt got the port i wanted so will have to get an adapter is this one here  ???  :durr:

Not all the USB to RS232 converters actually work as you may think, and even if they do, be prepared for some com port fun, which you'll no doubt be on to us about :p

They're both cheap enough for a punt though...

I havent re-booted it, I have cleaned it up and defragmented it. Seems ok. I'll bring it round after tea.

I havent got an XP media edition disc so was a bit reluctant to re-install, but seems ok.

I'm using it right now. :)

I'll let you use it a little while, if you think its not up to scratch, I'll re-install windows. :t-up:
