JeffC Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 You can do a lot more than set the rev limiter. Diagnostics are much easier if you can plug a lappy in, and you can diagnose an awful lot... True, however this is the man who thought his mouse wasn't working properley when he was holding it the wrong way round. It's a good point well made... If only Coops lived nearer the effluent south. I could sort his computers and get him to a good set of rollers to fix his ECU *and* fix his understeering problems all in a few hours... blatters Im as close to the south as I want to be , cant understand a word you foreigners speak and I dont like jellied eels wait til Ive been on track with the burgervan no doubt there will be a series of questions to follow now about this laptop wft am I going to buy Quote

danmo Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 How processor intensive is this software you want to run? that will give you an idication on processor and RAM that will be needed. A reasonable pentium 4 (processor, so like a 2.0GHz or higher) with 1 - 2GB of ram (800MHz) should do the job well enough if you want a cheap one. also screen size plays important role in price - go for a 15" screen. just make sure your not spending money on a good graphics card which you won't need. Also, find out whats needed to connect the ecu - there should be a way to connect it to a usb port i would have thought - but double check with people that you are getting the software from hope this helps a bit. (or is completely useless ) Dan Quote
Blatman Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 ECU software doesn't need a whole lot of computing power. I've run MBE and DTA software on a 650Mb P3 and 384Mb of ram with no issues... Quote
danmo Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 ok in that case, just get a cheap one then go to tesco maybe and see whats the cheapest on offer - that should be fine. here, how about this one? Will do for other stuff too. http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-0232.aspx Dan Quote

And it ain't cheap... Quote
