Charlie-speedsport Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Youth. MOST of them are ignorant b*****ds. No respect for anything, don’t want to work, everything is given to them on a plate if not the steal it, they spend thier time sat in front of a TV playing console games. I hate MOST of them. Carrying a knife well what does that say about you. I never did because I can fight, and spent most of my youth doing it, I grew up in a tuff working class area if you didn't defend yourself then you'd be bulled. Knives were there even then but not as prolific as today. Even in my hooligan days with Leeds United fighting on the terraces it was generally a dame good punch up, only occasionally a knife would show yes ok we used to fight with broken bottles and hatches occasionally but that was never on the terraces. Even though the area I grew up in was hard we always respected, people’s property, the elders and even the rozzers! And that’s what’s missing how we get it back is just beyond me… Now I know some of you will say its always been like that, well has it chuff, most generations showed respect for people, property and had a modicum of manors, I blame the media and some of the parents. I lot of the attitudes reflect that bunch of swamp dwellers over the pond. Their films, their music, their life styles just breed contempt, neuc Hollywood and the gangster rap boys and we just might see a difference. The Yanks have poisoned our language, our TV, our society and generally its down to the media and Hollywood. Apologies, I went off on one there but I love Bighty but it’s been socially demoralised and we haven't even hit rock bottom yet. I wouldn't have a clue how to resolve the issues with knives and violence as its too ingrained in society now & I'm not suggesting hit ‘fire with fire’, but some of the ideas the government want to try are a joke. They want to listen to the community leaders where it’s all happening. I feel there’s one thing for sure, it’s hear to stay and it will get much worse. Wait until the gun culture is fully developed in the UK in the next 10 years. I’ve got to admit I’m concerned about getting into my 70’s ok it’s a way off yet but the future for old farts certainly isn’t orange that’s for sure, that is of coarse if I’m still living in the GB or if I’m still alive come to think of it…. Just my thoughts Buzz What he says!!! As some of you know, I work in the criminal justice system and the youths that go through the courts now have no fear of the system and show no respect to anyone, - many of them see a custodial sentence or an ASBO as a badge of honour. I even had a client turn up at court wearing a tee-shirt that said " ASBO Kid! " Quote
danmo Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 My solution to this - is prob not the best but i think it would work.. The poice know who the trouble makers are in certain areas, but can't do anything about then - so all they need to do it watch on until be pulls out a knife on someone (or setup a situation with an undercover officer that accidently bumps into him and calls him something) - then when the knife is pulled ..... BANG ... stupid kid gets shot!!! Then other kids will be less likely to want to be caught with a knife. If someone with a knife pulled one out on me - I don't carry one - and would be wishing i had a gun on me, and was allowed to shoot them. Realistically I'd just punch them but even so - something major needs to happen to stop kids being able to carry them around. If thick person A pulls out a knife on thick person B and thick person B hasn't got one then he is most likely gonna get stabbed (there is no reason in thick person A's (thick) mind as to why he shouldn't stab him) - however if thick person B had a knife they would most likely not stab each other - cos hopefully there not as thick as that. So thats why they carry them - but if like i said something major happened - maybe even a real prison sentence for being caught with one - and it being enforced - it could potentially all stop. Just some of my scattered thoughts Dan. Quote
Pilot Pete Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Suprise suprise, no disiplin at all! and clearly no spelling classes either Spelling never was my strong point. Quote

Just some of my scattered thoughts Dan. Sadly, it's precisely that sort of scattered thinking that has led us to where we are now. Bloke A gets punched so bloke B pulls a knife, so bloke A shoots him. The phrase is Anarchy. Look it up. If you agree with the sentiment, expect me to come round, stab you and steal your car. When the police turn up, I'll just say that you said it was OK, that was how to deal with escalation of violent crime... Quote
Morbius Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I think the safety valve has already blown off on this one. When I was growing up, blokes were brought up with proper standards: treat women correctly; don't hit people wearing glasses (saved me lots of fights, that one). Even the 'rough diamonds' in my area behaved better when there were girls about. These days, the just join in rather than act disapprovingly as was their moral duty. As Al Murray put it as his 'pub landlord' character: 'We blokes gave you girls equality in the hope that you would drag us out of the gutter, and insted you jumped in with us!' 'nuff said. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 standards, morals, decency, self respect, common-sense words to savour because soon there'll be none left Corporal punishment and a clip round the lug'ole when needed ............... all taken away from those that need to undertake such duties, by tree hugging politically correct, nanny state do gooders ........................ last one to leave please turn the light out ................. at least that'll help with the carbon footprint Quote
Norman Verona Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Mark, do you think it will change with the Govt in 2 years time? I fear not. By the way, you missed a cracking day. I'll send you a photo. Quote
Blatman Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Government has got nothing to do with it. Parents, teachers and the police, as well as anyone else in "authority" need to be able to discipline children in a reasonable and proportionate fashion without fear of retribution. In my day, if I was told off and my parents found out about it, I got told off again. These days if you get told off, the parents seem mostly to side with their kids as if they are above reproach, basically calling the "authority figure" a liar. As if people look for excuses to discipline kids for fun... Boils my P**s... Quote
robthehungrymonkey Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 As someone that was a youth relatively recenly... It's ALL down to parenting. You can guess with about 95% accuracy what the parents of kids you see today causing trouble are like. And 5% of parents that are doing the best they can, their kids get wrapped up in everything that their friends are doing etc. I don't come from Brixton, but i think it's representative of most of the country (my girlfriends town is 150 miles away and it's exactly the same). (just to clarify, those percentages are meant to be solely the type of kids that we're discussing, not 95% of parents are crap!) Quote
Carl Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 QUOTE As someone that was a youth relatively recenly... It's ALL down to parenting 100% agree. Too easy to blame government, police, teachers, etc Quote
lukeyboy Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Sounds like this thread it's getting on towards the prison debate the other week Don't want to upset anyone, but I'll just chuck this one in. If your caught with a knife you get a public flogging with the cat of nine tails and second offences move to chopping a finger off (starting with the little one first) Did anyone see the documentary the other night on C4 about yoofs carryin weapons....... it was scary the level of intelligence!!! 15 year olds with semi-auto hand guns pretending to be wannabe gangsters!! If you were armed police you would have needed restraining not to shoot the tosssers Quite fankly if the Matrix film was a reality, you'd be better off sticking the inbreds in a tub of goo and using them for energy (if there was enough in their tiny brains) Quote

spence Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 What about national service? should that be brought back? Having spoken to a mate a while back he said the Army etc doesn't want them either. Unless they brought out some sort of body separate from the Army, it's the only thing i could see working. If they haven't got a job within 6 months of leaving school, not in full time employment or further education then they are made to do a type of National Service for a minimum of 3 years depending on age. Then have discipline and respect beaten into them until they understand the words 'RESPECT FOR OTHERS'. But without Army discipline and standards who's going to be able to control these little ****s and give them the discipline they require. It certainly isn't going to happen if these PC idiots have got anything to do with it. It's a tough call but something has to be done. Teachers can't do discipline, parents are told they can't smack, Kids are having kids then given council houses. etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc This country is going to the dogs. Funnily enough I was talking to a customer today who lived in Peckham since the 1960's ( apparently a lovely place then ) and had just moved out due to it's ever worsening problems. Her accounts through recent years was truly shocking. She had been mugged twice at knife point, Sexually assaulted once, constantly abused and burgled 3 times in 2 years. At the grand old age of 80 and having spent the last 5 years behind gated windows and doors, i just stood in disbelief at what i was hearing. There where also many other accounts she told me about but you get the idea. Did the police ever find any of the perpetrators? well you tell me. Would it of mattered to them if they did. Prisons are a walk in the park these days what with Playstations, computers with Internet access in cells and other luxuries some can only dream of etc at their beck and call. Make them break rocks with 15 years hard labour if found caught with a knife or a gun. Watch it stop over night. Sadly the days of whittling wood, carving your name in a tree and sharpening sticks with a Swiss army knife are long gone. Phewww Rant over. Quote
Mikey91 Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Its the nanny state which has bitten itself in the A***! Once a copper or a teacher was no longer allowed to clip a young un round the lug for cheek or misbehaviour, the youth realise that they were untouchable. By protecting them it has created a far worse problem IMHO Agreed! As a not so distant school leaver myself I've got to say the lack of disiplin in certain schools is frightening. Although I agree we should bring back punishment in schools, my secondry school proved that you can enforce good disciplin without it. It was entirely down to the teachers. You could have a good craic with them but if you stepped out of line they really gave you an earfull! The next school I went to had a majority of "wet blankets" running the show who were almost afraid to even raise their voice. Suprise suprise, no disiplin at all! What about national service? should that be brought back? I agree with the national service bit, stick these so called tough guys who carry Knives and guns into Afganistan and see who they come up against , that would also save a bit of space for the pedoes etc in our prisons, I agree with Buzz on all of it, yes we all had fights and gangs etc in our youth , in my day it was teady boys with knuckle dusters and chains, yes you took a bit of a beating now and again but you didn,t end up dead just because you bumped into someone or even looked at them. I also had respect to a certain degree for authority , Iam not saying I was a goody goody but if I saw a copper I would sh*t myself not swear and abuse them and as for my parents I was more scared of them if I did something wrong than I was of the rozzers coz I would get the belt or at least a thick ear, breath on the youth of today and your up for assault. Again Buzz hit the nail on the head WHY THE F***K DO WE LIVE HERE. I,m off to Northern Cyprus and so is my son and his family, it might not be for a year or so but the sooner the better for me THIS COUNTRY STINKS AND IT AINT GONNA GET ANY BETTER. Rant over feel better now Mike Quote
