carpetstu Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 k****l Carpet Stu, you were just down the road from my house there, good old John, John Tune used to do my dads cars years back. Never even gave it a thought Saturday Morning or I would have come out and given you all a wave having said that it would have done my head in watching you all blatting past after i had to drop out. Probably a good job I hadn't realised that! Your car might have been missing parts now Quote

Speed 8 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Thanks to all who participated for brilliant weekend! William and I did just a little short of 1200 miles in 3.5 days. While doing this our thirsty little tire waster consumed about 370 euro's worth of juice. Every drop was well spend though! Here are some pictures of our ultimate road trip: The ferry from Dunkerque to Dover. The car still nice and shiny. Friday early in the evening on our way to the hotel in Nottingham: Saturday morning first pit stop. Westfields in their natural habitat… A short stop at one of the many mind boggling view points: We didn’t knew that roads like this existed in real life. They guy who planned these must have had a high percentage of petrol in his blood: Sunday, and for me personally the best part of the route. Driving up the hill. The little V8 was made for roads like this. We were driving behind Carla and Si then stopped at the bottom of the hill and created about a 5 minute gap. Then charging hard up the hill we had clear roads and only had to overtake one Land Rover before catching up with the rest just before the summit. Absolute and utterly driving heaven! Sunday at the finish. We were on a tight schedule with the ferry and were in the first group to finish, We would have loved to stay a bit longer but we knew for sure the ferry wouldn’t wait for us. Had a quick look at the barracks in Berwick before starting the run down the ferry in hull: Really had the floor the car on the run down to the ferry. We started the drive home at Berwick with four other cars which was very nice. After about an hour or so only the yellow nutter with the slightly altered front geometry was still following us. Pretty brave considering the speeds did exceed the 70, 80, 90-ish mark now and then: Sunday at the ferry terminal. This was a close call. We had literally only minutes to spare as they closed the gates two cars behind us. Monday we got of the ferry at about 0815hrs, the weather was nice and we took the scenic route home. I put the car in the stables early in the afternoon. We would like the thank Carla, Si, Buzz and everybody else who helped for planning and organizing this top event. What an amazing scenery your country has to offer. We are looking forward to seeing all of you again in next year’s event! (there just has to be one ). Quote
busaboy2006 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 The yellow nutter would be Carpetstu and myself.. I'm pleased to report that last night we fixed the slightly mis-shaped wishbone and now she is running with new parts. The dog is still sitting on the bonnet. " I think its still shocked " Great to meet you guys (speed8), it certainly was a quick run down the M1 after the event. We stopped over in Harrogate for the night to break the driving up a little. ( Really nice place for a pint I may add) - the scenery is stunning... ;o) ... anyways.. I have to add, we nearly lost a wiper blade on the final leg of our trip, and this time it wasn't due to CarpetStu taking corners at 90.. It was the grub screw coming loose. Luckily, we noticed it just before it parted company with the car and a local Kwik Fit helped us out with an allen key. Looking forward to seeing you guys again on the next run.. Cya. Quote
