oioi Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 spot the gap! about 5 minutes after the crash the owner of the wall turned up and demanded money for its repair. Quote
Pilot Pete Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 b****r! Just looked at the pics, the car actually seemed to stand up pretty well, less damage than what I thought there would be after going through a wall! Should patch up. Quote
spence Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Thats just hardcore. Shame about the car though. Hopefully not too much damage. How did it happen? Quote
oioi Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 How did it happen? clear road, just wet no problems i pass a pug tip toeing along. next straight the car following goes to overtake, gets along side and hits a snowy section of road. now on the wrong side of the road, wheels on tarmac but snow under the car. went to get back onto the right side of the road and didnt make it... lucky not to be collected by the pug. stephenh Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 BBC has been saying today was heavy rain, not seen any here all day! I'm definitely going to Bakewell tomorrow. Quote
scubajess Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 BBC has been saying today was heavy rain, not seen any here all day! I'm definitely going to Bakewell tomorrow. Along with the other 10,000 or so people (or so it seems) that Bakewell attracts on a Bank Holiday Monday Quote
samcooke Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I got to the end of the road today, thought better of it and tiptoed home, which is better than my neighbour's Fiat 500 did, he managed a glorious slide out of his turning then locked the brakes and burst a tyre on the kerb... Quote
green-light-on Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 What happens in bakewell, if the weather is kind i might venture out that way, went for a run friday for an hour just got back in the garage and yes it rained been looking skyward ever since, four days off and cant get out going stir crazy Quote
stephenh Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 Well, it's very pretty, and you can buy a Bakewell pudding from the original Bakewell pudding shop. (note the real thing is a pudding, not a tart.) Plenty of nice pubs and cafe's if you want a snack. Main thing though is the "B" road up there and back! What other reason is there to go somewhere in a Westie! Quote
spence Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Jezzzzzzzzzzzzzarse it was cold out there today. First proper run since fitting a new clutch. Everything was against me going out, right down to a flat battery just before i was ready. . Then the very second i fired up the WESTY, down came the snow. So gave up and went in sulking Had a look about an hour later and bright sun shine. WHOOOOOOOOOPPPPAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got back smothered in crap, froze to the bone with a smile 10 times bigger than my shrivelled...................... Quote
Bambi Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Make it from just south of Loughborough to Gaydon and back, mainly along the Fosse Way. Quite a bit of sleet on the way back and as the offside wind screen wiper falls off if used continuously had to drive for a bit operating the wiper intermittantly. Visability was dreadful as the windscreen gets as wet on the inside as on the outside. Didn't get too cold or wet with side screens on. Took it steady though so hat didn't blow off. Car now needs good clean. Quote
green-light-on Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Went to Fradley juntion for breakfast by the canal, round to curbrough back to long eaton over cast no rain or snow cold to start but it brightend up two hours in and we had a great time all back roads a good blat Quote
stephenh Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Went to Bakewell yesterday. Just parked up when the snow started and this is in a car with an aeroscreen! Got the tonneau cover on, and fortunately it stopped before we wanted to go home, and it didn't settle. But why did the BBC weather people say it was going to be dry in my neck of the woods? Quote
nikpro Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 DO TRACKDAYS Thats my lesson I really do treat the roads as routes between A& B now, Granted some are more pleasant and interesting than others but to get the pedal down loudly , get on a track . I rarely enjoy a run on the public roads in the Westfield unless it's lovely weather - why would I pick an uncomfortable bone shaker with no proper heating or windscreen wipers on a cold day when I have a production car with all the modern convieniences sitting on the drive. Public roads are too busy to have serious fun - when you overtake one you get stuck behind another seconds up the road; then they all spy their that you've gone past them and try to kill you by closing up gaps in the traffic.
