Blatting this weekend

I was hoping to be out in my Wee Beastie on Sunday, but weather forecast looks cr*p.

At the moment Monday looks a better bet. Has anyone any experience of the Cat and Fiddle road on a bank holiday Monday? Is it worth doing or will it be full of slow moving traffic?

Cat & Fiddle will be full of bikers and Police.

Unless things have changed over the past 2 years.

(they even have an ambulance parked at the Macclesfield end to scrape them up and take them to hospital)

Maybe I'll just go to Bakewell then. Quite a nice driving road up to Bakewell via Ashbourne.

BH weekend , all roads chaotic , motorway gridlock cause hoards with GPS to seek the same  shortcut back and to from the day trip   :arse:

If the weather is cack there may be some respite  :t-up:

Roads around Matlock, Ashbourne and Bakewell will probably be busy, although the weather might put people off.  Cat and Fiddle is a great bit of road, but too busy during the day, best enjoyed early in the morning or late evening.  Also its just been changed to 50mph all along.

There are some great roads out in the peak district away from busier areas.   I've got some great routes that I like to do,  so I may post up some runs out when the weather gets better.

You could try the A54 between Buxton and the A523 but watch out for the rough bits. The A5012 from Newhaven to Comford is not too bad but the A515 is now 50mph.

Saturday might be dry but very cold - you can always put some clothes on. :D

Ahhh you mean th Congleton road, yes thats ok. I'm from Buxton so know all the roads around here. One of the best used to be Buxton -Chesterfield via Baslow (A6 - A6020 - A619) but its all <50 mph now most places.

Quite a good run is Buxton to Macclesfield over the Cat and Fiddle, over to Congleton on the A536, then onto Leek on the  A54 then A523 and home again on the A53.

In a perfect world I would be able to drive that with no police or other traffic.

Don't do the "good" roads at popular times.

Do them in summer, weekday evenings or early mornings.

Recce them first.

Avoid the sheep.

There endeth the lesson.

DO TRACKDAYS

Thats my lesson

I really do treat the roads as routes between A& B now,

Granted some are more pleasant and interesting than others  ;)  but to get the pedal down loudly , get on a track .

Good point.

I think there's a place for trackdays and a place for well rehearsed, trouble free, blatting. Both can be immeasurably rewarding if prepared for correctly.

Except one's cheaper.

Daughter home from uni so might risk a quick trip out as she's not been the Westie yet. Roads are wet in places and it's v. windy so nothing fast but tomorrow's weather looks really unpleasant so it's today or not at all.
