For this particular subject, think motorbike not car, and assume that you're invisible...

I genuinly believe that the experience gained from my time on bikes made me a much better driver (OK only my opinion) than I would have been otherwise.

That relates to both defensive driving and driving at stupid speeds (on a track of course).

It would be interesting to know how many "quick" drivers developed or honed their skills on bikes.

Been riding bikes for nearly 30 years, and was a courier in London for 17. I still ride every day in the rush hour in London, so I'm still reasonably sharp. It's safe to say I think you're right...

Yet another reason to build/buy a Yellow car.

Yellow is best, that's why there is so many, and talk about visible    :t-up:

I always think that where another vehicle is involved It takes two to cause an accident .

Regardless of whoever  is in the right or not  "most" accidents are avoidable .

In fact I bet most of us here avoid accidents quite often , by swerving , braking , or whatever action is required to counter another persons error and often  we dont even think twice about doing it .

It is the times when we lose concentration or become tired or distracted when we are most vulnerable .

Driving with headlights on all day long is not a cure for poor concentration.

Its up to us as drivers to observe the conditions around us and always to expect the unexpected .

:t-up:

Then we can act accordingly when the unexpected happens

Oh, the orange head. These days It's impossible to get her, with or without the orange head into the car. At least I'm not given frantic hand signals for toilet and coffee stops.

MOTCO, he claimed over 70% success rate by phsycoligical means, His theory was that Tinnitus is not a physical problem. He said that it's people listening to the silence. He also said that most people aquired the condition after a mental trauma such as bereavement.

He was at Hallamshire Hospital (Sheffield) but that was over 10 years ago so I suspect he's moved on by now. I can't remember his name but he was Scandanavian, even though he spoke perfect English.

Generally speaking, LGV drivers are aware of what is going on around them.........(I know I am putting myself on offer here, somebody will always have had a bad experience, but read the DfT accident statistics)

BUT, check number plates. If it's a foreign left hooker (and there are a lot of them these days), treat them with caution. Keep out of the area at the offside of the cab. You could be forward of their mirrors and they may have no idea you are there. If they pull out you will be toast

I recently saw an MGF  driver try to sneak in front of a LHD Scania on M25, fortunately in slow moving traffic, and was  shunted sideways along the road for his trouble, with minor damage. A Westfield would not have fared so well.  :(

And always drive with headlamps lit. :t-up:

Them statistics are falsified by the lorry firm's crooked trade association. ;)

Whether they are or not it does not matter i think car drivers really ought to appreciate what lorrys can and can not do.  When you are out on the road all day like me weighing 44tonnes let alone when im at 80tonnes and car drivers cut into your space that you have left to stop your self from dying if you hit the lorry in front (because that is the reallity with so much weight behind you and your legs sitting 1foot from the front) only to get off at a junction because they are late.  As they say better to be late than die trying to get there, trouble is it wont be them dying it will be me. As long as you respect lorries you will be okay i'd be more worried about car drivers and foreigners when you think they can see you and forget they are sitting the other side

sorry rant over. ;)

True but it's usually the other guy's fault  :p

I've started driving my Westy with lights on all the time but have to say I am still not certain if it makes any difference.  ???

Last May I was following RobC back from our Area Meeting and it was dark so we obviously had lights on and Rob has an Orange Westy. I was absolutely amazed at the number of times in a 20 miles trip that cars pulled out in front of him.

I think there is something in the not seeing a Westy as a car in the same way as bikes...

...deers aren't much better either!
