Fookin 2007!!!!

I must have run over one b'stard HUGE black cat somewhere along the line this year for all the crap I keep getting dealt :0

On my way home from WF today (in the crap tintop luckily) Iwas following a heavily loaded scrap lorry in the middle lane. Terrible visibility due to rain/spray and v heavy traffic.

Out of the lorry flies a huge bit of metal (later found to be a transit drive shaft and attachments!!). It bounces into outside lane and after putting a sizeable dent in a 3 series beemer it then skids/bounces back across to the middle lane....Right in my path :0  ...No time to react and BLAM...It dissapears under my car making one hell of a bang  before exiting left rear side.

On 1st inspection we find my sump is crushed right up to the block (about 85% of sump surface destroyed); exhaust downpipe is crushed; big lump in rear floor and blown out left rear tyre!!

Losing just a bit of oil I drive (slowly) the 1/4 mile I am away from home.....But now I can hear an ominous knocking from the bottom end   :bangshead:

Fearing the worst but looking no further 'till tomorrow.

No funds to repair or replace now either (unless anyone wants to buy a newly collected pair of WF trimmed race seats...Navy with yellow piping...with bases and runners

£530 buyer collects...Seriously!!!!)

Nope. All happened too quickly; visibility too bad and lorry well gone before could do anything about getting number etc...He probably knew nothing about it either

Scott - we are not related are we?   (hope not  ;) ) 2007 has been a sh1tter for me too. It al started when some tossa side swiped my trailer on Jan 4th going to the Emerald rolling road causing £750 damage and the most recent event is being made redundant.

Bad luck with the motor. The noise could be a crank web touching on the sump? Touch wood

Why did you drive it !

Because it only looked to be losing a little oil at the time. Weather was horrendous/ traffic mega heavy (on the motorway) making it too dangerous/ impossible to look in more detail at the scene.

Gonna have a look this am but figure the light knocking might be crank versus sump; as sump base has moved up a long way.

Not worth an insurance claim really. Car was only £900...Insurance is nearly that anyway due to circumstances earlier in the year :bangshead:

If it is the sump touching, try getting the car to a body shop and have them use a dent puller to try eeking the base back down. The sort that you spot weld a rod to the metal and use a slide hammer on the rod to pull the dents out with.

Gonna try and sort something today. Sump is past a dent puller I think. It's absolutely mullered (quick look and it appears to be split front and rear; with most of the rest crushed/ folded upwards. Not a lot of oil capacity there now_

Scott when I had a similar thing happen with the Westie last year I claimed off the insurance!

They covered both the engine repairs and the body work.

I hope this helps!

I know you say the cars not worth a lot but you pay insurance for this very reason, and it will be cheaper to pay the excess rather than pay for the repairs your self.

That sounds truly awful.

On a similar subject, Bike magazine were testing 2 new BMW bikes once and while going north on the A1, a flat bed garden supplies lorry shed part of its load as they were about to overtake.

Apparently it was the first time that BMW had had two bikes written off by a garden gnome. The riders weren't hurt but the gnome was rather the worse for wear.

My excess is unfeasibly huge for such a crap car :bangshead:
