Joined the thread late so apologies if I've only picked up on the later stuff but...

The joy of motorsport is that it's very, very broad church. There's everything from grasstrack to Formula 1. If they are silly enough to ban the development of engines in F1 for ten years someone else will take over. The likes of Ferrari, BMW and Mercedes will go their own way. Series like GP1 will rise to the fore.

They turned rallying into an F1 type global circus and now the good old RAC Rally is being recreated by enthusiasts. Its Darwinian , Its evolution.

F1 has become a circus with the ringmaster Bernie, and the FIA as the clowns. It should be about pushing the technology but to what point? Williams some time ago were reported as saying that the technology exsisted to have driverless cars, so is this where it should go? Some spotty herbert on a PS2 type console driving, everyone safe? No it should not and this is the dilema, like it or not the sport is a business and needs heros and villans to ensure it goes on. To my mind there is almost too much technology been introduced, which is difficult to square with my earlier comment, TC etc has benefitted road cars, but it has made ordinary drivers look good in extraordinary cars.

They should get the focus back on the racing on the track, lets ban pit stops ( so you need less staff to haul around the world) make the cars last on one tank of fuel ( that will ensure they develop fuel efficent engines) No pit stops mean one set of race tyres huge cost saving and cars would need to be able to drive with a mechanical grip level to accomadate the lack of downforce this would mean.

Drivers would become even more important as their skill would be an intrinsic part of the package not an add on.

When you read the article about Maclareans new hospitality unit, it compare to when Betty Hill, Graham Hills wife used to make sandwiches in the back of the lorry for everyone, and this was a top team. Now no one would suggest going back to that but how about capping the hospitality element as a way of reducing costs.

The FIA always take lunatic directions as the people who are on the council are weak, agreeing with the desires of certain teams (max Said Ferrari was the most important in F1) and certain people.

The recent debate on Pro drive is a classic example, let a team be formed spend millions already to prepare for 2008 and then change the rules to keep them out, only in F1!
