Blatman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Are you obliged to stop for an unmarked vehicle then? I didn't think you had to Quote
Blatman Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 That's my point though. I have in my car park a car that has the requisite lights and sirens, but it ain't a police car! How would you know from 50 yards away at 70mph? If they had uniforms on, then fair enough. If not, I'd be checking very carefully before accepting a caution... Good site, by the way Quote
Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 I have started sticking rigidly to the speed limit, biggest concern is looking at the speedo more than the road, the advantage is a genuine 10MPG improvement in fuel economy, oh and I won't get nicked for speeding It wasn't you who was parked at dead on 70mph in the outside lane of the A19 on Sunday was it? Otherwise clear road but refused to move over No - realise it can't have been as it was a Toyota Rav 4. Obviously trying to live up to the "Car in front of you is a Toyota" sticker in the rear window. Surprise, surprise, I had worked that out given the time I had to read the flippin thing. Worse than BMW's Quote
cast iron Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Why would you want to be past if they were doing 70 you cant go any faster Quote
Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 What riles me is that i was alledgedly apparently (which i deny obviously) doing 115mph, whereas someone i know regularly drives at 140 topping 180 occasionally, and has never been caught. Where's the justice in that! I blame the dark, would never have happened in daylight! Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 On my way back from the garage down the a23, nice emptyish clear road, on my bike.... whizzed along... blue lights from the silver unmarked BMW behind me. Funny that. I was going north on the A23/M23 yesterday afternoon at about four thirty and saw the signs about unmarked police vehicles. Damned unsporting I thought. Not a bluff, apparently. Quote
Lurksalot Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 In my experience , if your travelling at a rather rapid rate of knots and see someone catching you ,they either want to race you or they want to put you in jail Did he have any evidence of your speed ? video etc or 'I was following you for a third of a mile and your speed was *** ,sir' Quote
Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Agree. It was a bit late by the time i spotted him - in the dark its hard to spot someone following at a distance from the cars you just overtook. In respect of evidence, i didn't see it, but the car did have a camera and he told me that if it went to court i'd get a ban... so i happily took the FPN. Could have been a bluff? Not a game i wanted to play! Quote
higgsti Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 i recon youve been bluffed if hed got video evidence hed of shown you ive been shown it twice now before holding my hand out for a slap Quote
Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Possibly. What evidence would they actually need in court? If he had NO video evidence, would there still be a case? Quote
higgsti Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 just your word against his if no video.although there will be police radio tapes if he radioed in Quote
nikpro Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Sometimes I find some people incredible; Carl has honorably owned up to breaking the speed limit by some margin yet their are several people trying to get him off - would you do the same for someone who stole your car? In respect of going to court and evidence the officer has the corroborative evidence - all speeding offences require corroboration; he has formed the opinion you are travelling in excess speed and this is corroborated by his speedometer. I wouldn't advise going to Court; The court are more likely to believe the Police Officer. Quote
Guest Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 That's a little harsh nikpro, i doubt there's anyone on here who steals cars, and there are lots of people who speed... its just a little harmless discussion to aid us all a better understanding of the law. I've paid my ticket now in a 'fair cop' sort of fashion, caught fair and square. Quote
