The injector rail gets tightened down enough to the bodies to maintain a seal around the injectors (looking at a factory ST170 manifold theres no clips holding them in there either). The clip 'teeth' should slip into a groove in the injector body and slot onto the rail, but that no doubt depends on the type of injector you have.
