mark.anson Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 The Willwood Dynalite caliper has lots of compounds available from various manufacturers. Its the powerlite that are restricted on pads Quote
Norman Verona Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I have Wilwood and their ceramatillic pad compound. With the 11.5" vented disc they seem OK. Bear in mind that most US pad material is a long way behind European technology. However with only 1/2 ton to stop it's not as much of a problem as it could be. One thing to remember about fitting larger discs (like 11.5") is that you will not get a 13" wheel on and therefore tyres will more expensive. Quote
stu999 Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I changed to Wilwood Powerlites and larger diameter discs (260mm) from M16's with Ferodo DS2500 pads fitted. As Howard mentioned, I never had any complaints whatsoever with the M16's and DS2500's either, including open pit lanes at places such as Oulton Park, which is quite brutal to brakes; especially on an open pit lane mid summers day... Since converting to the Powerlites (with the smart pads), when just pottering about the Wilwoods definately have a lack of feel when compared to my old setup. However, at Aintree (another brake torture track...) when being used *hard* they gave just a little bit more confidence than the old setup, a trait also noted by my co-driver (SWMBO!). However, Aintree was the first time ever I had experienced the 'spongy pedal' mentioned above too! Maybe I am possibly being a little unfair - after all, an increase in confidence would probably mean later braking, which in turn means more heat to get rid of - and it is possible I had got more speed to scrub off with the winter conversion to TB's, Simpson exhaust etc A change of pad compound is next on the agenda for me, as few seem to get on with the Smart compound. But they are not getting replaced until I have turned them to dust Quote
orbv Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Did lots of research on 4-pots a few weeks ago. It came down to Cat (hispec), Wilwood Dynalites or Outlaw calipers. The outlaw calipers go under a number of different names.... Outlaw M16 Raceleda R16 (http://www.mnrltd.co.uk/ or http://www.locostparts.net/) Bremsport M-16 Cat Motorsport (old style) M16 WMS 4-pot (Cheap on ebay) Wilwood Billet NDL Caliper Wilwood Billet Narrow Mount Dynalite All these calipers take the same pads. Hawk / EBC / Wilwood make off the shelf pads and Volvo and Subaru pads be modified to fit (Mintex etc) Wilwood Polymatrix A compound have good reviews and are a option on all the above calipers. I've spoken to TMD (Mintex) and they are willing to make a batch of pads to fit these calipers if enough are ordered. This would avoid the need to modify pads. Could not find much information on the new CAT and Powerlite calipers or pads so this ruled them out. Went for Outlaws in the end as could source them cheaply and they have a cool name Quote
orbv Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 BTW: Four pots with 1.5" / 38.1mm pistons will keep the pedel travel the same as M16. Quote
Neil Purdie Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Could not find much information on the new CAT and Powerlite calipers or pads so this ruled them out. The Cat (Hispec ultralite 4) caliper takes the same pads as a Lotus elise 111R and VX220 2.2 so should have all decent pads covered Mintex 1144 part number is - MDB1890M1144 HiSpec Ultralite4 M16 info Quote
