scott beeland Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Just watched it and it was a supreme bit of driving from Lewis. He is certain to be knocking on the door of a championship win this year at the very least; car reliability allowing;....Sheer talent.......that is fact that no one (not even Alonso) can deny. Four restarts under S/C conditions and managing a flag to flag lead is testament to PURE talent and a PROPER racer. Just wish I'd chucked a bundle of money on him at the beggining of the season...He's now evens to take the title. Other than that.....fook me how did Kubi survive that without at least MEGA injuries??? Testament indded to how far the cars have come since Senna Quote
Martin Keene Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Other than that.....fook me how did Kubi survive that without at least MEGA injuries??? Testament indded to how far the cars have come since Senna Christ alone knows... Lucky boy indeed. It turns out reports of a broken leg are wide of the mark as well. He suffered nothing more than a sprained ankle... I really did think I was watching Imola '94 all over again. Especially when the car had come to a halt and your saw his hand 'move', looked more like it flopping down due to gravity to me and I thought... Oh Hell... Quote
samcooke Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 It's incredible stuff. When his head was flopping from side to side as the car finished rolling I felt sure it was fatal. Quote
ChrisG Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Me too especially when I saw the replay of him going in head on like that rather than a glancing blow, had one of those pit-of-the-stomach feelings straight away. I suspect if that had happened even last year we'd be talking about severe leg injuries at least, because they upped the frontal impact test by 30% over the winter IIRC, and there certainly didn't look to be 30% of leeway in the damage to the front end! There was an amateur video on YouTube earlier taken from a grandstand on the inside of the circuit looking back up to the hairpin watching the back of the cars as they were braking into the hairpin etc, and it showed the crash even more graphically than the TV coverage. The car was launched in the air before hitting the wall and hit the very top of the wall. I reckon a foot higher and he would have speared over the wall and into a line of cars exiting the hairpin at the exact moment of impact, which could have been even worse. Sadly Bernie's been browsing YouTube this evening and got them to remove all F1 footage as usual, even though in this case it was amateur footage Quote
peter pan Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 All too often the nature of a race is changed drastically when the safety car comes out. Lewis Hamilton had pulled out a circa twenty second lead when the first deployment of the sc took place. As all the cars that had been so far behind him, caught up behind the safety car, I thought, thats it, Lewis has probably had the best from his tyres in building up that lead, and now all those who couldnt get near him a little while ago will now go past. I was wrong, because LH did it again, and again, and again. Every time in fact, following the use of the safety car. His Dad apparently was working two jobs to earn enough money to pay for Lewis`s racing. Looks like its paid of in spades. Every success to them, they deserve it. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I suspect if that had happened even last year we'd be talking about severe leg injuries at least... I saw the Autosport(?) "mid air" photo before I'd heard the reports of an ankle sprain only; I must admit the site of the car still flying through the air, with his feet clearly visible was another pit-of-the-stomach moment. I felt sure the broken leg reports were going to be a real understatement. Quote
peterg Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 For those that haven't seen it yet, here is the still photo of Kibica's car just before it finally came to rest on its side, his feet clearly visible Quote
Asterix Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 ...and here is a picture of the wheels coming off Alonso's wagon... Quote
windy Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 Make's you wonder if the others are really trying. Just takes some young blood who lets face it has been driving fast all his life to make everyone else sit up. F1 is still a procession & a bore. Yes I fell asleep too & missed the crash. Take the wings off & go back to proper slicks then I'll watch a full season of races. Quote

steve_m Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 He's done it again and despite the smiles, Alonso looked like the chap who had winning lottery numbers but forgot to buy a ticket. Well done Lewis, will we get bored of saying this by the end of the season ? Quote
neilb Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 QUOTE Well done Lewis, will we get bored of saying this by the end of the season ? Hope not - the driver that was leading after round 6 has gone on to win the championship according to Brundell heres hoping Quote
peterg Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Is it just me but at the post race press conference did Lewis Hamilton's overalls look like they'd been washed in Daz and Alonso's looked like they been dragged through an oily puddle Quote

GuyH Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 This Lewis is an arrogant little bleeder isn't he?! No idea where this supposed reputation for humility came from, his dad I assume. Quote
