whetstonewestie Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 have my test tomorrow morning at 8am Leighton Buzzard! spent a lot of the weekend checking everything looked ok, everything tightened up and all sharp edges covered. Tools are ready and lots of edging spare pipes and tie wraps just in case. Have the feeling i have forgotten to do somehting but no idea what. Think i am pretty well prepared but only thing i am a little unsure of is whether to take side screens off when i get there? what have others done? if i take them off what do i cover the mounts with? did not see anything in the SVA prep pack from WF. kipford Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Take the side screens off today, do not drive to SVA with them (enjoy the wind whipping through your hair and the rain soaking you). In the W/F SVA pack are 4 black plastic covers, they have a tapered shape which fits over the hinge points on the windscreen sides. Glue them on with silicone, as they will fall off if you do not do it (hold them in place with tank tape or similar while the glue sets). God luck tomorrow, the experience is nowhere near as bad as the mind percieves it. Dave Quote
It Almost Looks Like A Car Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Yep, I agree, sidescreens off and covers on! Also put nut covers on the press studs on the front top corners of the windscreen, take a section of fuel hose which has the specs printed on it just in case you need to prove the stuff you have put on your car is ok. Otherwise relax and enjoy it, with the attitude that the 1st test is just to see what needs doing to pass!!!!!! Good Luck Quote
whetstonewestie Posted May 21, 2007 Author Posted May 21, 2007 Thanks for advice guys. expect an update tomorrow afternoon. I am also a Liverpool fan so this is building up to be a very stressful week for me Quote

whetstonewestie Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 Failed but not on much and most annoyingly things i did not have a lot of control over. 1) car would not self centre. 2) speedo readings were accurate to 35mph but then would not rise in proportion to the cars speed and were too far out at 70mph. Day started well as was expecting rain but instead lovely weather. got there 20 mins early - no problems finding the place even if tom tom found it tough. fist up emmissions - Fail. Level of hydrocarbons too high 0.06 (up to 0.03 allowed) Second up general check up of car. one of the exhaust brackets was stickly slightly out. Was allowed to move it into the exempt area. next up brake light test all ok but light in wrong place attempted to move the light while guy was examining under the car. this ended up as a stupid thing to do as when the car came down from ramps and went to look at the lights half of them would not work. checked all the fuses and nothing wrong. This is where the panic set in and the rest of the test becomes a blur. brakes were ok lights were out but allowed to adjust. when we came to the speed test the clocks were not working. took of dash and realised that 7.5a fuse under dash had gone (in the panic i had forgotten it was there) changed that all dash worked. (some releif) speed test - fine to 35 but after that it was just not happy. adjusted the sensor over driveshaft three times and different settings on clock but still not working. all the rest went fine apart from the self centering. and at the end i asked for the emmissions to be retested and it passed. all in all the day was good - the test guy was great and talked me through the whole thing and gave me the chance to make alterations. just annoyed to have failed on two things that are difficult to test until the test. oh well booked in to another one next wednesday where the forcast is rain and maybe take to WF from northlondon to get them to lookat it and set up suspension where the forcast is also rain . if you follow the manual and take the advice of people who have done it before you will get close, but somethings you just can not prepare for.
