Buzz Billsberry Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I would have liked to come on that mainly to have a look at putting a proper V8(not the two washing machine engines welded together)in the caterham wide body or SV I think they call it. Unfortuanately I'm racing at Lydden that weekend so its a no go. Buzz Quote
Ian Podmore Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 in amazement of this generous offer. Had to double check the date of posting first as well! Quote
v7slr Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Former Caterham owner here. Point 1: I've never been made to feel unwelcome at either the Caterham factory or the Westfield factory, but Simon may be right that the former Caterham management may not have viewed Westfield owners in quite the same enlightened wash as they are now. 2. As a "known" Caterham owner (to the original Westfield Management) I was made to feel extremely welcome by Westfield, and Mr Smith Sr even took me for an impromptu look around the factory himself (when I was buying their truck on behalf of the Se7ens list). I found the experience extremely interesting and compared well with a similar look around the Caterham factory hosted by Len Unwin (for me alone when I took my Se7en in for repairs once upon a time). The 2 factories are both the same and different, exactly the way the two breeds of cars are both the same and different. The differences are in the details. There are some sensitive souls on this board. Get over there and have a look. Simon has said there's no pressure or pretence that you are a prospective purchaser. Go and have a look. If nothing else it'll lay to rest any doubts that Caterhams are anything but similar to Westfields. I *know* some Westfield owners view a migration to Caterham as an ambition just as I know of (I can think of 4) former Caterham owners who have sold up and bought Westfields. I'll say this, if I bought a car based on the sales-experience alone, I would probably have bought a Westfield the day I was at the factory buying the truck. If Simon is making the effort to make you lot feel as welcome as I was then, I think he should be congratulated for this opportunity and you should take advantage of it. Quote
mb893 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Can I have a show of hands please as to who wants to take Caterham up on their offer... Can you email me on: SURREY AO, well one half of it anyway, and I'll do the donkey work. jc Quote

nlash Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 A clever bit of marketing, and an approach that isn't all that new. This kind of thing goes on in business all the time and no supplier would in their right mind underestimate the intelligence of a potential customer. When I was selling a particular brand of air conditioning (in the days when I had a proper job), the worst thing you could do was slag off the opposition to a customer, because invariably, the customer would then start buying the opposing product. Something Steve Jobs of Apple should start taking more notice of. He constantly slags off Microsoft and it gets boring beyond belief! Quote
steve_m Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Just out of interest, if anybody is near Harlow this Friday the 6th then the Dax open day would be an interesting few hours. There will be a number of customer cars there, usually about 25 or 35 or so and passenger rides are always available in anything from turbo bike powered cars to Barry Ashcroft style monster Cobras with 500bhp as well as the more usual n/a R1/Vx and Rover engined cars. Free buffet and drinks and the weather is going to be hot Sorry for the thread hijack but you did mention performance upgrads first . . . Quote
mb893 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Only one definate "I'll come along" so far... Anyone else? Quote
cast iron Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Has anyone told the Westfield factory about this, they are very supportive of this club. I think its a bit of a sneaky tactic and IMHO we shouldnt be supporting it. Theres the debate started just get my coat and TAXI.... Quote
mb893 Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 QUOTE I think its a bit of a sneaky tactic The chap offered an 'event' in a polite manner... We should reply in kind..., can't see the problem m'self. However, as only one Westy owner wants to go so far, (and it's not me), it looks like a bit of a non-event anyway... So again, no problem. on that front PLEASE NOTE... As I have taken delivery of my new toy, which is going to monopolize my time even more that my Westy, (hard to believe but true)... After today if there is still only one person interested I'll pass this back to the Chairman to what he will with it. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Has anyone told the Westfield factory about this, they are very supportive of this club. Darkspeed Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Personally think it's a top offer - when I have spoken to the Caterham guys at shows and the like they have always been very generous- If I wasn't at the diagonal opposite of the country I would certainly be taking up the offer of their hospitality - think it would be rude not to.
