KerryS Posted February 27, 2007 Author Posted February 27, 2007 Once set the air bag off in a Honda while parking.... Only you could do that Mark! It's really good to know that there are other nunneys out there other than me This place is a bit like going for counselling - good for the soul Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Commiserations I'm not going to tell you about the damage to my tub before even before it was SVA'd Quote
Norman Verona Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 If it helps to confess our stupidity did I tell you about the time I forgot I'd applied the bonding to a new carbon wing only a few hours before fitting my new Tillet seat and just had to try it. I ran over my own wing as the wind lifted it and I braked hard throwing it off the stay and under the front wheel. So, I ran over my own car. Quote
Ian Podmore Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Surely it's possible to repair it, do you remember the hole in Rob Navin's wheel arch that was repaired by Paul at Playskool I think? Quote
KerryS Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 AFAIK and I stand to be corrected, Barney told me about this and someone in Chesterfield repaired and sprayed it. With all due respect to our speed series friends the finish of the body is not always the most important thing for them, hope that's diplomatic enough??? If not I apologise Quote
timd Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 It is perfectly possible to repair cracks in gelcoat, with results purely dependant on the amount of effort put into the job. You can get pigment matched to existing bodywork if its faded so the repair job can be completely invisible.. If Westfield are telling you otherwise, may I suggest that is because they sell new tubs... Quote

If not I apologise I didn't study it that closely I must admit, my attention was averted by the magnificant magnolia colour. Quote

Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Yep I agree, I found a guy local who makes F/g parts for Speedway motorbikes with all kinds of fancy sparkly finishes in the gel He repaired my little whoopsie Coincidently a few years later when Scooby joined the club, it turns out the guy is Lisa's (Scooby's girlfriend) dad Quote
CedricTheBrave Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 I can join the stupid t***t club as I left my bonnet out in the garden during our last bout of high winds. I hadn't even fitted it properly yet and it has some nice patterns on it not sure how many times it went around the patio during the night Quote
KerryS Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 So would anyone recommend potential fibre-glass repairers in Derby/Notts area before I go down the replace tub/insurance route? Whatever, it'll cost me the £100 excess and if I get a new tub rather than a repair that may not work in the run, which is what I have been advised could happen, might it not be a sensible option? The assessor appointed by FJ wasn't fazed by the new tub approach. Quote
JeffC Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Its very basic to do , any good bodyshop will repair and the finish will be better than the Gel coat , job shouldnt be expensive fwiw The westy Ive just colourchanged only took me 2 hours to prep the full car inc repairing cracks and filling in numerous holes on the tub / bonnet etc. Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Kerry search for Scott Bader, they supply F/g materials to everybody including Westfield, they may have a branch near you, they may be able to reccommend someone local who they supply to iyswim, thats how I found they guy who did mine. If you look on the labels on your body parts, the bit with the mould number and colour code, you'll find a code for the colour that starts with SB, thats a Scott Bader ref, they have branches all over the country, failing that try a boat chandlers or canoe makers, maybe even a sign makers they all use F/g.
