neilwillis Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 When I saw it at Autosport I just assumed it was some student project (No offence to engineering students). Do they seriously think they'll recoup their £250,000 investment on it? The Aerial Atom is quite an elegant design, but this just looks awful! Quote
stu999 Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Similar, in concept, to an Ariel Atom. The fact that it has a Honda engine and four wheels? Can't see much else to relate it to the Atom... Quote
Swiss Jeff Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 that is one ugly mother of a car looks like its designed by a blind baboon Quote
neilb Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Are those big aluminium curved sections even structural? If you remove them (as they don't appear to be part of the chassis) the car underneath looks like an OK monocoque ready to have a decent GRP body dropped on top. I saw it at autosport and they looked more like plastic than solid aluminium and the roll bar seemed to be just sat on the back, have you noticed how close they are to the top of the front wheels - only a couple of inches of travel on that front suspension...there would be a lot of work and cost to form those sections. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 The front wheel position was apparently a bit of a lash up for the show; the final versions will sit out board of the big chassis rails. Which IIRC were supposed to be solid aluminium rather than box section! I think the nose cone was also a temporary design, can't remember what they said the final one would be like, I wasn't paying that much attention. Quote
James Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Yep ugly and not even that light my westi is lighter than this and manages to look bett er Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 Did Stevie Wonder help with the design Quote
*Emma* Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 My son (aged 6) has just seen this and said "Woh, cool car!" Just wait 'til his father gets home ......... Quote

Well, if you take the ugly bits away and add a proper body, you will end up with a GTM Spyder. That is what the monocoque is taken from. To be honest I feel quite embarressed to own a GTM these days. I don't believe the 250.000 pound development cost story either. The Libra cost 250.000 pounds to develop, I cannot imagine that they payed the toddler that designed this more than 2.50 pounds. And that is even a waiste of money! Quote
Gazza Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 ... i should say that I LIKE the other GTMs - great little coupes. Quote
Chris_G Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 that is one ugly mother of a car looks like its designed by a blind baboon I agree with all the UGLY comments and also saw it at the show, so how come today AutoExpress are referring to 'Rave Reviews at Autosport'. The only raving I can see is the Raving mad designers The Article Chris Quote

SADDLEWORTH Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 They may still be thinking of which style body panels to apply Quote
