windy Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 No interpretation needed Mark It's in black & white: From 2007 Blue book 11.8 Transmission. 11.8.1 Roadgoing producton cars. a) The gearbox and differential casing must be of the original type and material and remain in their original position. b) The method of gear selection must remain standard (sequential selection only where fitted as standard). Westfields are Specialist Production cars as defined by 11.1.2. The transmission rule above applies to Roadgoing Production Cars as defined by 11.1.1 I hope your right Windy as its something one day I would consider. Checked on the MSA web site and the rules for 2007 look to be the same. The big but though is it does not specify transmissions for Specialist Production cars which makes it a bit of a grey area and could cause problems with scrutiners. I had a similar chat with a scrutiner re headlamps and not running them in a road going class as the car could pass a daylight MOT and who knows what was on the car equipment wise when it was built. There is no such thing as a standard Westfield and so many options that I could not see how they could make you run with them on but I was told in no uncertain terms that if I turned up without headlamps I would not be able to race. Well SS competitors have just had a Technical Query Form answered on the very subject. There are no specific rules for transmissions on Specialist Production cars but there are for Roadgoing Production Cars. Westfields are most definitely Specialist Production Cars. The MSA will not answer a technical query like this if there is no ruling for them to answer. Further they will not create a rule if they feel there is no justification for it. Of course there are some Championships & Organising clubs that have some rules of their own. By agreeing to partake in events you agree to those rules. The clubs do however publish their rules in their supplementary regulations so most people are generally aware if an ally gearbox casing is not allowed. Quote
