adamnreeves Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I see winter has arrived and therefore the joy of actually trying 0-60 and 50-70 in the car has been replaced with formulae in which to calculate the experience. These calculations my turn a mathematician on but poor substitute for the real thing! Quote
geelhoed Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 I was out this weekend, in the rain even... But as I said I lack the equipment for measuring it correctly. All I was able to determine is that I was faster to 40mph than a 944. And it is not mathematics, it's physics! Mathematics is to physics as masturbation is to sex! Quote
pistonbroke Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Yes ,yes, we know all that , but tell me .......... what does it rev too Quote

Monkeylegend Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Easily calculated(estimated) by taking the top speed (112mph) and the peak power (120bhp) P=0.5*rho*A*Cd*U^3 rho, the density of air is about 1.2kg/m^3 Cd=2/1.2kg/m^3*120bhp / (112mph)^3/1.7m^2 = 0.68 If you say so Get my coat springs to mind. Preferably an Anorak. Quote
geelhoed Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 ahhhh some blatchatter agreed with my Cd value caterham drag Seriously! Nobody else has any measurements of 50-70 or 50-75? Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Caterham/Westfield 0.7cd Hummer H2 0.57cd QUOTE Seriously! Nobody else has any measurements of 50-70 or 50-75? Hope to get out and play with a new toy soon so will let you know when I give it a try (DL1 data logger) Quote
geelhoed Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Yeah, I've been looking into making my own version of a gtech pro. Though I could do it cheap, but it turns out tha a accelerometer is about 20£ total cost would be €50 Still that's a long way from the $200 they want for the real thing! Quote
Westfieldman Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 From a quick look at the data logging from June this year [engine has been remapped better since] 50mph@ 05,32,467 sec 70mph@ 05,34,767 sec so it would work out at 2.3 seconds This is one point on the track [i belive it is Mansfield to the bottom of the mountain as i have no map plots it is not 100% but it looks like it] this bit of track is flat and almost a straight line Also this is just one plot as i did 9 logged sessions that day most over 15 laps long so there could be some better times Quote
geelhoed Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Dang!!!! What's your set-up? Guessing: 200+bhp, 450kg, 4.11 diff and no windscreen? Quote
Westfieldman Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 250 bhp 515kg plus driver 3.92 diff and an Elite box with the right ratios in it Quote
geelhoed Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 and the 0-60 time? 3.5 sec? I need it for my simple model..... Quote
Westfieldman Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 There is no standng starts 0-60 on a track day Quote
