I'm currently looking to learn to fly RC Helicopters and would like to buy an Aplus 400 electric 3D helicopter. Would this be a good helicopter or is it too compleacated for a beginner. It looks very well made in comparison to say an Esky Honey Bee and the like. It is my intention to learn to fly sat at my pc. Any help or suggestions much appreaciated.

Have a look here for all about heli's. Best forum on the net i have found.

http://www.runryder.com/

I've used simulators before and in the last few years they have got so much better. I think the best ones are Reflex and G3.

Simulators are good to give you an idea on what to do, but when you have a few hundred Quids worth of heli flying around, it's a little bit different. You can't just press the 'ESC' button and repair sorted. :0  :p  :D

Best advice practice, practice ,practice and more practice. Remember your gonna crash no matter what, but that's all part of the fun     :D

I've flown heli's for years on and off and only crashed once, mind you I don't think i've ever got more than a foot from the ground so not so far to fall.

Takes a lot of nerve first time and things happen so fast, you deffo have to have to know your left from right even when it's coming towards you un-expectently .... scary!

Still great fun though and one day I will master it - but not today spaniard, not today!

Here's our website

http://www.medwaymfc.co.uk/

As you enter there is a picture of me flying my first circuit after 2 1/2 years of getting up the bottle to do it. No laughing at my shorts ( work fashion  :D )and packed lunch strapped around my waist. I got so fed up hovering about , i decided to bite the bullet and do a massive high up circiut.

Helped that i also fly planes :D

Have crashed a few times every time a tried something new.     Even my mate who is basically a pro still crashes so that makes me feel a little better.  :D

We must have enough on here to start a heli corner. 35 years RC verything myself, 25 years of that on heli's and still learning..

as for the begginers advise REFLEX XTR everytime and a basic unmodified Raptor 30 is all you need..leccies too small really for learning you need to go nitro -AND JOIN A CLUB-

When you can fly you cant beat the Trex - great in the front room too but as for the prat with a Rappy 60 he should be shot...A very good freind of mine was on the sticks of a model that killed a young child some years ago, through radio failure,  as you can imagine it damn near broke him..

Its a great hobby but nowadays just too easy for idiots to get into and then post videos of their antics.

Sorry to here about your friend and the child. I think that type of event would put me off for life. :(

Just goes to show that these things arn't toys and those that use them as such are idiots. re- Video i posted.

It wasn't the accident in Dartford ( if my memory serves me right) was it, if you don't mind me asking?

On a lighter note all those interested in RC flying are more than welcome to join our forum at

Always good for a bit of banter.

Not the Dartford tradgedy...several years earlier and did put him off, top competitive flyer and BMFA examiner too.

What we need is westfield flying weekend - theres probably more flyers in the WSCC than most flying clubs...

Trouble is after 15 years in westie i have still to work out how a 2m pattern ship will fit !!!

--Tigger you and i must be clones...identical cars and r/c too !!! dont tell me your 6ft,and bankrupt too ... far too many hobbies...

Well as it happens, I AM 6ft and always need money. Can't wait to retire so I have enough time for all my hobbies :D

As for the Relex XTR, does anybody know how to wire up one of the usb adapters from Radio to PC? I've had a go at the free FMS but it's not very reponsive!!

Thought the second vid was very funny. If both sides were to do the same there probably wouldn't be many wars  :p

Gents if we are on about hobbies.

As mentioned above I fly heli's, but also fixed wing.

However being a really SAD person I also play with model railways, exhibiting with my local club all over the country. Now it is VERY difficult to get a layout in a westy. Any more anoraks

Got a Sceadu 50 and a Vario Kobold 60 (which I want a scale fuselage for if anyone has one!?? )

Great hobby and very demanding!
