Buzz Billsberry Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I hope he gets better without any hassle but, who is wanting to see the footage? Do you think it will be broadcast or will someone stick it on the internet before too long? I don't wish to be pompous, but I think we should wait to see how he gets on before looking for footage. If he pulls through then watching this would give us some sense of how lucky he was (though I'm not sure we would need to see the video to appreciate that). But if he doesn't pull through, then watching the video would at best be rather morbid. Well said, Top man Phil.S Buzz Quote
Vinny's Westie Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 No further news as yet, just hope for the best and then watch Clarkson rib him, I hope so. Quote

But if he doesn't pull through, then watching the video would at best be rather morbid. So, people do actually want to see the footage? It's only on moral grounds not to? news.bbc are already showing a compilation of his 'life so far' so to speak, including footage of one of the jet-car runs (albeit briefly). Heaven forbid, he doesn't make it (and it sounds like there's no reason to suspect he won't) does that mean they'll not watch it on the principle that someone dies in the process? Maybe, there'll be a couple of months 'cooling off' period before it's deemed okay to see what happened? I don't see the difference between this footage and anything in the news that shows various buildings/vehicles/whatever getting blown to bits by a missile apart from the fact that people on here just don't have a connection with 1000's of Iraqi's as they do a fellow car enthusiast. [edited to correctly spell 'people'] Quote
chappers Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Get well soon Richard - best wishes from one petrol head to another. Top Gear wouldn''t be the same without you. Quote

adhawkins Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 A bit Chinese whispers, but a poster on a newsgroup has said that Radio 2 are now reporting that he has regained consciousness... Andy Quote

Andy Don't read too much into this news at this stage. It may be that he is being woken temporarily from sedation to assess any early indications of damage Quote
adhawkins Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Yeah, I was in two minds whether to even bother mentioning it. More news is filtering through via Sky News (the wonders of working in a TV related field ). Various people have reported that he was talking on the way to hospital, and also that brain scans today have not shown any bleeding. Andy Quote
Gromit Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I was genuinly upset when I heard the news, fingers crossed for his speedy recovery and best wishes to his family at this time. "Come on Hamster". Quote
scott beeland Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Not wanting to hypothesise too much but although "no bleeding" is a good thing it's more the pressure on the brain from swelling that does the damage if not treated rapidly. There isn't much space in the skull for brain mass swelling and the repeated traumas of brain tissue versus skull surface in a high speed multiple impacts ( rollovers for example) can do quite diffuse damage. Now I'm not trying to sound like the harpinger of doom...I really hope the Hamster makes a FULL recovery...but lets not get too excited until we've got some official update on any improvement. Quote
adhawkins Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Latest on Sky, he has suffered a 'significant brain injury' but doctors are 'reasonably optimistic' he will make a 'good recovery'. Andy Quote

Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I hope he gets over this properly. My feeling about him, as with other people that I quite like, is that if the world were made up only of Richard Hammonds it might be a strange place but it would be unlikely to be ridden with the wars and strife that this one is. As best as one can tell from what one sees of him anyway. Good Luck RH Quote
