peterg Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 ITV News reporter " there isn't a roof on the vehicle he was driving" Personally, I think Richard Hammond was a petrolhead first and a TV presenter second (and I certainly don't reckon he ever tjought of himself as a 'celebrity') and if I was given the chance to drive that jet car I'd have jumped at it despite not being the right side of 50 anymore Quote
jak Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Hope it's not as bad as it seems, and he is back on Top Gear soon. Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Bit of a shocker - looked like no cage on that car either, apparently it was about 8 years old. Hope Richard recovers and fully, Brainiac one of my favourite progs !!! Quote
peterg Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 QUOTE looked like no cage on that car either Eh? put your glasses on Chris, that's a jet dragster with full driver safety cage built to perform at full FIA events and is probably as solid as it can be - my car is 8 years old too and I've no reason to suspect the rollbar/chassis is any weaker than when it was new Quote
Asterix Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I hope that being the top story on bbc news 24 for the last 3 hours (and probably the next 8) helps Richard Hammond get better asap. Amongst all those suffering tonight, my thoughts are with him and his family. Quote
Boomy Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 The video report says he walked away from the crash and got into the air ambulance so i assume things developed after that for him to be critical. Fingers crossed for the fella. though I'm sure the accident was serious and I wish him well, the cynic in me thinks this is perfect cricketing preamble to the new series of TG (due less than one month from now). peterg Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Just drop it Asterix, we get the idea OK Quote
Mrs Westy Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 Can we please quit with the unnecessary digs? Is someone less deserving of thoughts, just because they happen to be in the public eye and people know of them? It's a rhetorical question, please don't answer as this was simply meant to be a thread of thoughts from a bunch of petrolheads to another. Quote

Yes I know Barry posted a picture and no my security doesn't let me view it without switching to a different level. When I mentioned the age of the vehicle at no point did I suggest that it was fatigued in anyway, it was just an observation. If I put my glasses on whilst I still have my contact lenses in everything goes fuzzy so thats a stupid idea. I am sure that Richard Hammond will rest more comfortably tonight knowing that is off our chests. Quote
Boomy Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 It's now suggested he is in a stable condition. The BBC site has been updated with more info. Quote
