V 8 Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I agree in principle, as the real way of becoming an expert is to win your class on the day. Currently we cater for novices as we have a separate internal class for them which is not catered for by the MSA. We "promote" people additionally internally, as the novice class may get oversubscribed if the MSA class win rule was adhered to. I personally feel we shouldn't have a novice class and have best novice award at the end of the season. It does seem unfair to the seasoned campaigners who spend time, money and effort , data collection and interpretation to come second to a first year novicewho happens to have a faster car than everyone else. Since the beginning of the SS only Tom Green to my knowlege has won the SS as an expert, every other was a novice from A or B. It's alright novices bleating about loss of incentive if they get promoted to an expert, at least it's before you spend anything!! Tommo. Any chance of keeping this thread in the SS info section. I'll post it there aswell. Blatters, any way you can you delete the thread and repost in SS info?? Quote

I agree The novice incentive in the SS is an intro (and a good one) that should really only last 1 or 2 years (OK I know some intend to stay there). Quote

Why delete the thread from the view of all members of the club, all of whom are entitled to enter the speed series if they so wish. This is an open forum, lets keep it that way. Quote
V 8 Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Why bother having a forum section just for SS competitors at all then? Quote
MartinH Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I agree that the Series Winner should not come from the Novice classes irrespective of the driver or the car novices will always have the advantage of a larger class therefore a better chance of scoring the magic 17 points. In 2005 there where only 2 events with less than 3 starters in Class A, Shelsey where entry is a bit of a lottery and Loton which clashed with 3 Slappers. Steve has amplified the very point I was making, the attraction of the Speed Series used to be that it was a low cost entry into motorsport for Westfield owners, in that respect I think its loosing its way. There has already been some discussion within Class A of a Class C1 for 8 valve engines, a Classic Westfield Class No motor sport has ever be truely low cost but we should at least make an effort to restrain the costs in some classes. Terry Everall Posted August 13, 2006 Author Posted August 13, 2006 Having moved up through the ranks from class B where I did battle with Tommo , Paul Edden Barry Slingsby and Keith Anderson I think it was a great introduction but The Overall winner really ought to be an expert as they are clearly quicker than the novices. I am ok with classes for "Novices" but you cant stay there forever. Quote

Here Here Martin Just as a matter of intrest this is the number of entries at all events, in each class so far this year:- A 59 B 26 C 53 D 28 E 41 F 68 G 33 H 47 J 34 Quote
Robandcolin Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I also think it is too easy to be promoted to expert from novice only having to win one event makes it far too easy as Mid Life points out. I too will be promoted from A this year after winning 1 event well 2 now and soon to be more I hope. But I am not concerned and relish the challenge of trying to beat the likes of John who have been doing it for many years and have spent alot more money on their cars. But for the likes of mid life who wanted to try out the speed series and then come back next year to mount a serious campaign have found themselves in C wondering whether to continue next year, which could have been avioded by a 3 win system. Terry Everall Posted August 13, 2006 Author Posted August 13, 2006 shame to see class B and D with low entry. If they were combined it would be different stats! Could still award best novice and best newcomer etc Interesting that class F has highest entry and we dont have Novices/Experts Quote
adhawkins Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Information and details for Speed Series registered members only. General information and chat should be posted in main competition section. I guess you could argue that this belongs in there, but that means the discussion is only available to currently registered competitors, not people who might be considering competing next season (for example). Andy quite fancy a crack at it next year but all this goes straight over my head guess all I will need to know is when I get to pick the trophys up Quote
