Eccentric_Rich Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 What about a transfer to a more rural setting rather than scally-land Why don't you look at transfering away from the city into a nice rural hospital. I'm thinking North Devon, Cornwall etc where the worst injury you'll see is when someone cuts off a limb in a Combine Harvester As has been said previously at least you get to work with Nurses all day long Richard. JulianS Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Hi Scott - I [/i]think that the BMA careers dept have a few staff who advise on 'exit' - perhaps the RCN have a similar group?? Have you thought that you experience and qualifiactions make you ideally placed for people management - many graduate entry programmes etc look for your 'type' Quote
JulianS Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 but I have to pay again privately to get my teeth fixed. When in a more cynical mood, I'm tempted to say that you've had an advantage, but I do tend to see only the work that fails, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but then maybe not! Quote
brianm Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Scott, not read the thread, but you probably actually like/love the job you do, or originally intended to do. I think it's your locality thats to blame. Good mate of mine was a mental health worker in the Preston area, not a million miles from you. The job was getting to him, forever dealing with no hopers. Sorry if I'm being PIC here but in my view some folks are beyond the help that could reasonably be offered. Anyway he blagged a job in the Northern Highlands. He is now happy, and has probably the best blatting roads in the province to go at,........ consider!! Quote

SteveC Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 blimey, I thought working for the Uk car indutry sucked (although I'm sure Windy will disagree) but there are lots of alternatives out there,(sitting in a Japan hotel, maybe i have picked the wrong one!), but sainsbury' delivery driver seems low stress! Head to a private hospital Scott! Quote

HGV drivers are supposed to be on big bucks around Northampton, Rugby area. Stobart drivers are on a good wage. A friends son has just passed his Cat C&E LGV with Stobarts and at 23 his starting salary is £21K! Pretty damn good considering I was on about £12K at 23 Quote

Bryan C Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 My mate works for them and simply does the weekend runs at a premium rate, that then frees up the rest of the week to lay on the beach in Spain using cheap flights. Its a tough life. Hope you get sorted. Regards Bryan C. Quote
Westy1700 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Scotty. Good luck in the search m8, sorry it comes to this. We owe our daughters life to the good guys of the NHS, i couldnt do what you do and face what you must face every day and we should all be grateful for the job that you do ! Someone recently told me I had an important job as an accountant - but i dont save lives so it cant be that important Greg By the way - I drove the beast for the first time on Saturday !!!! nearly there now.... Quote
scott beeland Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 Cheers Greg. It's not the saving lives bit that I hate...That bit is actually quite good (If it's a life worth saving)... It's all the beurocracy; bulls***;violence and PR b*****k that goes with the job that I hate...Oh..And the night shifts.,.. Glad the motor is up and about. Send me some pics for my site. Got mine remapped yesterday Quote

I agree with you Steve yes the car industry is not what you want to get yourself into, especially in the UK, its a dying trade & the pay is crap. The only real perk is geting to drive some nice fast cars when I want to, but after thinking that I'll never be in a position afford to own any one of them, kinda gets you down a bit after a while. One of the senior technicians left from the workshop the other day because he was getting shafted for loss of overtime, shift premuim, & hours. We are all in the same boat it seems. He's now driving trucks on better pay & terms. I think the only ones that make it in engineering ere those brave enough to take the risk & go it alone. You thought of becoming a builder Scott? Quote
