Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th June 2006 – HSCC ‘Yorkshire Weekend’ Car Race Meeting

HISTORIC RACERS TO GRACE CROFT

Croft Circuit near Darlington will reverberate to the sound of yesteryear when the Historic Sports Car Club heads north for round six of their various championships next weekend (June 17/18th).

The popular series will see capacity grids in most classes and will feature various categories for single seaters, sports cars and saloons in a throwback to the 1970’s heyday of the circuit which saw many top drivers race at Croft.

Billed as the ‘Yorkshire Weekend’, the meeting includes a total of sixteen races over the two days and the action will include Classic, Historic and Road Sports cars as well as Racing Saloons and the Jaguar XK series meaning an action packed day of nostalgia and close racing for both competitors and spectators alike.

In the 70’s Road Sports class, Paul Conway’s Morgan Plus 8 leads the Pontiac Firebird of Robin Gray while in the School Garage Historic Road Sports, Lawrence Bailey’s TVR Griffith heads the charts.

Tony Pearson in his Jaguar S Type leads the Bates IT Historic Racing Saloons class which will feature Anglias, Cortinas, Minis, Imps as well as the big-muscle American Fords such as the Galaxie, Mustang and Falcon.

The Grandstand Motor Tours Historic Formula Ford class sees Neil Fowler leading the way in his Lola whilst John Truslove’s Lola Mk 2 and the Brabham of Cliff Giddens leads the Historic Formula Junior and Classic Racing Car Championship respectively.

With all classes racing twice in the ‘double header’ meeting (once on each day), fans are in for an extra treat on Sunday with the one hour Classic Sports Car race incorporating the Autosport Grove Air Endurance Trophy’.

A provisional entry list and timetable can be found at http://www.hscc.org.uk/Croft%202006.htm

Saturday’s action starts with practice at 09.30 followed by the first of eight races at 13.45 and racing on Sunday commences at 12.25. Adult admission costs £10 with accompanied children aged 15 years and under admitted FREE.
