scruffythefirst Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 BTW what is wrong with somebody sticking to their asking price? Nothing, I made him a (lowish) offer, and he replied with "na dant want it" and walked off. Quote
Blatman Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Can they me made to handle? Yes, but they won't compare favourably to a Se7en. First off, a panhard rod or a Scorpion kit (if they are still made) for rear axle location. After that, it's as simple as front and rear springs. Keep the fronts soft ish, trust me. Quote
scruffythefirst Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 Yes, but they won't compare favourably to a Se7en. I was hoping it was going to at least compare to my last cavalier (100k dampers and standard rate lowered springs the cav was poor), but the capri felt like it was made of lead, suspended on sofa's at each corner. Shame, I couldn't find any significant rust on it anywhere. Need to drive a 2.8i i think. Quote
Blatman Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 2.8i's and 3.0S's are *much* better than any other Capri model. It *should* handle better than a Chavalier but as with anything, it's subjective. A good Chav will be better than a poor Crapi, and vice versa. The extra power of the V6 will make the whole thing more alive. I had a recent reminder of this when I drove a 2.0L Omega for a short while, jumped out of that and into a 3.0l Omega for the return journey. Night and day different, with the 3.0l really alive by comparison to the 4 banger... Quote

ROC Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Here's a 'tastefully' modified stunner http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1977-FO....iewItem Quote
scruffythefirst Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 Well I bought one, 1.6ls with half leather recaro's wandery steering, scary brakes and a surprisingly enthusiastic 1.6 pinto. No structural rust that I can find either (probably means its shot to bits) Just need some 2.8i single leafs and ARB, polybushes 4 new avo's and front springs, 15" wheels and modeo brakes asap Then druatec v6 and jag gearbox, 2.8i special lsd and rear disc conversion Quote

scruffythefirst Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 Is that all? To start with anyway, after the handling and brakes are sorted, it'll get a bare shell re-spray, new engine with power steering and aircon. Re-trim interior and nice stereo, then it'll be a perfect daily driver. When I can afford it anyway, strangely insurance is cheaper if its modified Quote

I dont mean to be picky and I do admire your enthusiasm but personally I`d sell it and buy a good un thats been done. It WILL be cheaper in the long run. (been there done that and it ALWAYS costs 1 1/2 times the estimate, always) Quote

If i've done it, I know its been done right and I wanted a project now the dax is finished. I can't afford 4k now, but I can pay for it bit by bit as I go along. If I had had that attitude I'd be driving a bmw or something, not a kit car I built myself. Quote

If i've done it, I know its been done right and I wanted a project now the dax is finished Agreed, dont take it the wrong way, I never meant anything derogatory. I agree its great fun to do it your self. If thats your aim then go for it. Me, I`d find one thats already been done but needs TLC. All the right bits but needs a refurb, a lot cheaper IMO. Whatever you do, keep us posted Quote
scruffythefirst Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 I never meant anything derogatory I know All the right bits but needs a refurb I haven't seen one for sale with all the right bits on yet, and with cars of this age IMHO bodywork is more important than mechanical bits. Quote
