As for leaving things on the roof of your car - I think I have the worst ever...I had 75,000 USD that I was taking down to a Crude Oil tanker so the Skipper could pay the crews wages in a seperate black briefcase. Put said briefcase on the roof and loaded the rest of the gear into the car.Well you know what happened next...yup I drove off and the briefcase fell to the ground in the middle of our car park which is also a very large shopping centre car park in Middlesbrough. I was almost half way down the road when I got a call from the office asking if I had forgotten something....How lucky, someone from our office found it first I could have been in a spot of bother!! :durr:

I once put my mobile phone just inside the rear hatch whilst I had the boot open, then went to shut the boot twice before I realised I'd left my phone there. :durr:

Phone still worked, just looked a bit battered.  :D

Went on a climbing holiday in Scotland a year or two ago and set off from services up the motorway with the bootlid open.  Honestly had no idea until I thought it was strange that I could suddenly see out the back where before my view had been blocked by rucksacks.  Took a while to recover everything!  Think I need to turn the stero down in future! :D

Had a Citroen Saxo a long time ago with a spoiler on the boot lid, put my mobile on the roof and drove off.  About two miles down the road the phone rang and I couldn't find it, rang again so stopped and found the phone wedged between the spoiler and the bootlid.  Just picked it up and answered the call  :D  :D

Add me to the list too, on my first westy back in 1991, I took my neighbour for a quick spin and it flipped off 200 yrds down the road. Like a fool I tried to catch it, good job I didn't coz it would have ripped my fingers off.

I'm sure there are plenty more who have done it that haven't owned up

This happened to me many years ago when I took my mate out in the TR3 I'd just bought. I thought I had beteer check the oil first, but the latch didn't quite catch when I closed the bonnet. Got up to speed then up it went over our heads and straight under the wheels of the Escort following who flattened one side of it.

Earlier still I forgot to tighten the wheel nuts on my old Herald. While I was wondering why the steering was juddering when going round bends the front wheel fell off

There has been loads of threads in the past about bonnets but I've never read one saying the bonnet hit the car or a pedestrian i'd say thats pretty lucky.

I've been lucky I've only forgotten once and I realised before it came of, the foam i have between the body and the bonnet seams to make a pretty good seal its hard enough to get it of by hand when you undo the latches.

Years ago me and my codriver were giving the escort a once over and fetling the brakes one saturday afternoon before a night rally, I left the garage travelled down the road outside went twice round the roundabout in full drift then came back up the road approx 250yards before my car dropped at the rear and started rythmically going up and down. The wheel nuts had come out and my drum was running around the inside of the wheel. Luckily they were 7" steel wheels so plenty of width for it to run on. Even more lucky i walked back down the road and found all the nuts!

We both assumed each other had checked the nuts!   :bangshead:

Mate at work did a top trick, changed radiator on his motor on the street outside his house. Filled the rad and left it running to get the thermostat to open. While he was waiting he went in for a cuppa.

Next morning he couldn't understand why the car wouldn't start or why the keys were in the ignition?

He'd only left it running till the chuffing petrol ran out!  :bangshead:

A mate of mine who's occasionally on here (rm163063) has done this when he took his future father-in-law out for a quick spin. :durr:

The bonnet flew up and smacked said father-in-law and left him with a bit of a gash in his bonce. Remarkably though, during this process and despite the whack to the head he still somehow managed to grab the bonnet and prevent it from flying away!

think i can add to the list of bad luck this week - got a text message whilst at work on lates -

'dunno how to tell you this easily but *** has just knocked down your garage with her car - i do hope your dax is ok inside - the doors are jammed solid with falling bricks...'

hmmm ???

turns out it was exactly as described - knocked down the corner pillar - but thank the heavens above nothing landed on the car - missed by inches falling bricks.. :t-up:

the builders turned up yesterday to rescue the car using acro props now i need to rebuild the garage... hmmm not pleased.. but no ones hurt  :t-up:
